The UK is home to an amazing variety of wildlife – from red squirrels and wild ponies to humpback whales and dolphins – there’s an abundance of animals to encounter on and off our shores.

But despite ample opportunities to spot some of the nation’s most treasured species in every corner of the UK, our latest research revealed our knowledge of wildlife is declining, with a quarter of the 2000 people we polled saying they would not be confident they could point out a dragonfly if they saw one in the wild. More than one in five people also said they wouldn’t be able to identify a robin and would struggle to name a badger.
