Caravan Insurance is not a legal requirement in the UK; however we would strongly recommend that you insure your caravan. You never know when the unexpected may happen. In 2010, around 1,250 touring caravans were stolen in the UK. Although the number of thefts of caravans is decreasing the number of thefts from the caravan is rising. Add to this the possibility of damage caused by a natural hazard or simply damaged when detached then it makes sense to protect your valuable investment.
Remember caravan insurance covers you for more than just the caravan itself. Club Care’s caravan insurance covers your caravan as well as its contents and equipment against theft, fire and accidental damage so is well worth the investment.
CRiS stands for the Caravan Registration Identification Scheme. The CRiS number is a 17 digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). All caravans manufactured since 1992 by National Caravan Council (NCC) members are recorded on the CRiS database by their. This VIN and the caravan description are recorded on a Touring Caravan Registration Document, which is sent to the caravan's registered keeper. Even if you own a pre-1992 caravan, or imported your own caravan into the UK, you can still register it with CRiS yourself. For caravans manufactured before 1992 you should find the VIN or chassis number on a plate on the 'A' frame or by the door.
For caravans manufactured after 1992 in addition to the above, you should also find a 17 digit identification number etched on the windows. This is your CRiS number.
