My wife and I recently had a few days at the Crowborough Site.We will certainly go back there in the near future. - FM Bridges
Crowborough town is a ten-minute walk
from Site. It has a good range of shops and
several eating places.
Crowborough Leisure Centre is next to the Site. It offers discounts to campers who
would like to use the swimming pool.
There is a mini steam train – operating on Saturdays in high season – and a boating lake just outside the Site.
Four steam railway lines are close, including the Bluebell Railway and the Spa Valley Railway.
Eastbourne and Hastings have safe beaches and many attractions for all the family.
A bus from outside the Site will take you to Tunbridge Wells, Brighton or Lewes.
Ashdown Forest is home to a
Llama Park and the “Pooh Sticks”
bridge which appears in AA
Milne’s Winnie the Pooh.
Bateman’s is one of 15 National
Trust properties in the area. The
Jacobean house was home to
author and poet Rudyard Kipling.
Bowles Rocks has an activity
centre based around a 15 metre
high sandstone outcrop. Try
climbing, abseiling or skiing.
Bewl Water is the south east’s largest
stretch of open water. It is home to a great
variety of wildlife.
Take a day trip to France from nearby
Newhaven or to London from Crowborough
station at Jarvis Brook.
Worth Noting
Kitchen available £2.40 per night. Reduced rates for sports centre adjacent to site. Some pitches are sloping and chocks will be required.
Eat Local
Davenport Vineyards in Rotherfield produces red, white, rosé and sparking wines. Farmers’ Markets are held monthly in Crowborough and Lewes. Spillards and Laurel Farm both sell local produce.
