Site Description:
The coast at Charmouth is part of the Jurassic Coast of Dorset – now a World Heritage Site.
Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre is home to interactive displays and much information on fossils, fossil hunting and the local coastal and marine wildlife. The famous fossil beach is five miles from Site.
Dive beneath the waters of Lyme Bay to see the rocky reefs.
Lyme Regis has a stone harbour wall, known as the Cobb, and is known for its jazz festival in July.
The Wildlife Park at Cricket St Thomas is currently active in 21 breeding programmes. Visitors may see baby lemurs or camels.
Take a tram along the beautiful Axe Valley from Seaton to Colyton and the UK’s last Oak Bark Tannery.
Walk the Coastal Footpath to Beer – an old fishing harbour – and on to the fishing village of Branscombe.
Exeter is the regional capital of the south west. Red Coat Guides give tours of the ancient city on foot The Walls tour takes two hours, while the Customs House tour is half an hour long.
Inland is Forde Abbey, set in 30 acres of grounds including a bog garden and arboretum.
The market towns of Crewkerne, Chard, Ilchester and Bridport are worth a visit.
