A lovely campsite located on a canal with a number of attractions nearby.

Our Devizes Club campsite is a lovely quiet and secluded retreat by the side of the Avon and Kennet Canal in the heart of Wiltshire. The surrounding countryside, ideal for walkers and cyclists, is where you’ll find some of the UK’s most significant prehistoric sites including the iconic Stonehenge and Avebury Stone circle.

This well-kept, tree-lined campsite provides 90 pitches, some lined by hedging to give a more private feel. In addition to the amenity blocks, campers can expect a children’s play area and playing field and a large dog field.

You can walk or cycle into Devizes from the campsite via the spectacular Caen Hill flight of 29 locks or catch a bus from the stop a five minute walk from site. Buses also operate to Melksham, Bath and Bristol from here.

This bustling historic town has weekly general and collectors' markets and a regular farmers' market. Wadworth's Brewery is here. See its famous shire horses make deliveries in town. Sample the ales at the visitor centre where tours of the brewery and stables can be booked. Also in the town is the Wiltshire Heritage Museum where you'll find Britain’s best Bronze Age archaeology collections. The Kennet and Avon Canal Trust Museum alongside the canal is where you’ll discover the fascinating story of this delightful waterway.

Further afield Longleat and its 900 acres of parkland is a great family day out.

Good points: 1. great location, good pubs next door & 1 mile along the canal. 2. Very friendly & efficient wardens 3. Excellent dog area. 4. Good Tv & wifi reception. 5. Very Well kept site. Not-so-good points: 1. Access lane tends to get clogged up! 2. Hard standings filled with cheap gravel - too many chunky stones and bare patches that play havoc with groundsheets! 3. Only 4 toilet cubicles in gents block, yet 6 privacy cubicles. Judging by the number of desperate men queuing for the loo at peak times, this ratio has GOT to be wrong!! For a site this big, something needs to be done - I would hate to stay at peak times!! Overall, a very enjoyable stay. We shall definitely return!!

Not visited for 9 years but still as wonderful.

Not visited for 9 years but still as wonderful. The wardens are exceptionally friendly, the standard of maintenance and cleanliness is first class. Lots of planters and baskets are a nice touch. The toilet block is spotless but it is in need of updating very soon, the lighting, sinks and hand dryers need bringing up to date. Access to the site was good but just before the entrance a local resident has parked an old van on the road and our caravan was a tight fit getting past. Would definitely recommend especially if you love the idea of a canal side walk.

The wardens are doing a good job of getting campers pitched in suitable sites for all needs.

The wardens are doing a good job of getting campers pitched in suitable sites for all needs. The shop says that it is open at set times, but there was no time that we found the reception unattended and shop was always available (especially for ices and ice cream). Staff are working hard to keep what seems to be very old facilities as clean as they can. The water pressure for cold water in the toilets (Ladies) was poor but there was always very hot water. Seems to be too many 'wash hand basins' but only a very small basin with hand soap (which was empty for three days of our stay) for washing hands after using the loo. The One Hand drier was also 'Out Of Order' the whole of our six day visit and no paper towels arrived until our forth day. Ventilation was also not good in the showers with only one door able to be accessed by code system. Whole facilities block could do with an upgrade as it is not up to the usual club standard by any means. Surrounding areas are really lovely with some great places to visit.
