A lovely campsite located on a canal with a number of attractions nearby.

Our Devizes Club campsite is a lovely quiet and secluded retreat by the side of the Avon and Kennet Canal in the heart of Wiltshire. The surrounding countryside, ideal for walkers and cyclists, is where you’ll find some of the UK’s most significant prehistoric sites including the iconic Stonehenge and Avebury Stone circle.

This well-kept, tree-lined campsite provides 90 pitches, some lined by hedging to give a more private feel. In addition to the amenity blocks, campers can expect a children’s play area and playing field and a large dog field.

You can walk or cycle into Devizes from the campsite via the spectacular Caen Hill flight of 29 locks or catch a bus from the stop a five minute walk from site. Buses also operate to Melksham, Bath and Bristol from here.

This bustling historic town has weekly general and collectors' markets and a regular farmers' market. Wadworth's Brewery is here. See its famous shire horses make deliveries in town. Sample the ales at the visitor centre where tours of the brewery and stables can be booked. Also in the town is the Wiltshire Heritage Museum where you'll find Britain’s best Bronze Age archaeology collections. The Kennet and Avon Canal Trust Museum alongside the canal is where you’ll discover the fascinating story of this delightful waterway.

Further afield Longleat and its 900 acres of parkland is a great family day out.

The site is level, but has had issues with water-logging in the past, now resolved to a large extent. The access can be awkward due to parked cars, but passable with care. First time out with our brand new 'van this time, so no motor-mover fitted yet, helpfully the wardens parked us in the 'oversize' area as we couldn't fit it in without a mover on any of the available pitches. Wardens were friendly and helpful, perhaps even a little crazy in a good way, a plus for us. Eating locally has various options, the 'Three Magpies' did us well as usual, as did 'The Barge' though due to SWTSMBO's sciatic problems we didn't walk there this time. Did a tour of the Brewery (only taken us 18 years to get round to it) and bought some Wadworths country home with us, worth a visit. Eating in Devizes proper you have pub's, hotels and the usual chain rubbish, but take a wander around and you can find some little places with proper home made food at very reasonable prices. As a touring base the site opens up a large area, so do your own research before leaving home. Caen Hill flight of locks on the Kennet and Avon canal that runs past the site are also worth a visit, during the summer when the hire fleet are busy it can be good fun sitting watching all the hard work going on. No doubt we'll be back again in a few years, next time with a motor-mover fitted!

We have just come back from Devizes after an eight night break, this was our second visit. We were made most welcome yet again nothing was to much trouble for the staff, and everyone of them always had a smile on there face. This site has a lot to offer, very close to a lot of places of interest, Lacock Abbey is not far away and that is well worth a visit, there is a lovely tea shop in the village itself serving a variety of things to suit all tastes. You can walk on the Canal in to Devizes which passes the famous Caen Hill Flight, you meet a lot of different people on the boats either going up or coming down the flight, always happy to pass the time of day with you. We visited Marlborough, Avebury the Vale of Pewsey all lovely places with a lot to offer. We had such an interesting time, as we have made another booking for later in the year as we feel we never had enough time to see everything. A big thank you to all the staff for making it so special for us.

Loved the easy access to the canal we cycled both ways.

This review is for Devizes

Loved the easy access to the canal we cycled both ways. Great access into Devizes (go left on the canal path- we went the wrong way) but did find a lovely pub garden to sit in for refreshment and watch the barges go by. We timed our visit with Devizes food festival - lovely meal at the 3 Magpies at the site entrance, I would suggest booking your table we were lucky to get the last vacant table. Avebury is well worth a visit. We thought the site attendants here were exceptionally friendly !
