Steal away to an orchard by the south coast in the country's newestNational Park.

Natural and unspoilt sum up our peaceful Slindon Club campsite set in an orchard on the edge of Slindon Forest, National Trust owned bluebell woods, in the heart of the South Downs National Park.

This 40 pitch campsite has beautiful views across the coastal plain of West Sussex and is home to a variety of bird and wildlife. Facilities on site are limited to a water tap and chemical waste point.

There are many walks direct from the campsite through surrounding woodland and estate which has 25 miles of public right of way and ten geocache boxes waiting to be discovered. The National Trust owned Slindon village is a stroll away and has a pub (The Spur) and community store - The Forge - which also serves as a café. Cyclists can have their pick of circular routes all starting from the village.

The market town of Arundel, east of Slindon campsite, boasts a castle, a cathedral and the Arundel Wildfowl Trust – a 65-acre haven for wildlife. Amberley museum just north of the town looks at the area’s industrial heritage. Parham House and Gardens at Storrington and Goodwood House to the east of Slindon, West Dean Gardens and Denmans – a tamed wilderness garden – near Chichester and are all interesting days out, as is the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum.

Beach lovers should head to the family–friendly beaches at Littlehampton, Bognor Regis and West Wittering.

Once pass the warden you're set up.

Once pass the warden you're set up. Basic but pretty site close to Slindon estate and lots of walks.Do visit the Forge in the village for light refreshments it's excellent and one of the reasons we stay at the campsite. Could do with a few more EHU s and the arrival time has been made later its a waste of a morning ,yes I know it's for ease of traffic but to be fair we have never met any vehicle in or out. Mainly retired people there. Pretty hanging baskets and bird feeders. Usually peaceful at night but not if Fontwell race course has a do so best check as we came home a night early due to the din but it's a nice location could do with a bit more of modern approach. Great for a night away and dog walks. Do remember there's no toilets or showers you have to be self sufficient but there plenty of drinking water taps and chemical waste point. Gas is available to purchase.

This site is local to us but was our first visit. Set in an orchard ( I think- trees in blossom) on National Trust estate. No facilities except some EHU but we use our own anyway. All grass but neat and a lovely quiet little site. There are numerous walks directly from the site, which is great with dogs. Not sure what it's like in the wet but we had an expected warm weekend so loved it. Will be back.

Slindon is our nearest camp site but we could be anywhere as its so peaceful with plenty of dog walks. A visit to The Forge is a ritual for us and a look round the Pottery is always a nice way of buying local pottery. Nore Folly and the views are not to be missed. Alan and Rose who run the site are always helpful and welcoming as well as being 'characters'. Long may they reign !
