Overview

A tranquil, traditional campsite within the M25 motorway, which has been in the Club's care for more than 90 years.

Please note: Walton On Thames is a Member Only Site.

Our pretty Walton Thames Club campsite ticks all the boxes for campers wishing to experience the hustle and bustle of the capital but camp in the more relaxed setting of the countryside. You would hardly know this leafy green oasis is located within London’s orbital M25 motorway.

The campsite is well laid out and surprisingly tranquil and spacious. There’s an excellent dog walk on site and numerous opportunities for dogs and walkers to stretch their legs off site, including a pleasant riverside walk into Hersham. Look out for the site’s resident parakeets.

Horse riding, golf, Nordic walking and llama trekking are all activities that can be enjoyed within the vicinity of the campsite.

Train stations at nearby Walton on Thames and Hersham make London and its attractions very easily accessible. Family days out not in the capital can be enjoyed at Thorpe Park, Chessington World of Adventures and Legoland theme parks. The popular Hampton Court and Claremont Landscape Garden are close by.

From here we walked to Hampton Court and will return to do part of the Thames footpath. Very peaceful despite proximity to Heathrow. Just be aware there are no toilets or showers!

I thought I knew this area of Walton on Thames so when I read the previous reviews on this site I was taking them all with a pinch of salt. I thought the site just can't be as tranquil as the reviews suggest - but to my amazement, it IS! The site is a real find; a peaceful and calm oasis. The brilliant thing about this location, is that for all the peace and quiet, it's so easy to access London. We walked about half an hour from the site to Hersham railway station and jumped on a train to Waterloo, and we were there, in the hustle and bustle of London, within 25 minutes. We saw a show, came back the same way, and it was all so effortless. There is some aircraft noise to be heard but it is in the distance and we didnt find it intrusive at all. Same with the trains; you can occasionally hear them rumbling along in the distance too, but nothing unmanageable. The wardens (Peter, I assume) and Tracey were so helpful and friendly, they managed just the right level of contact while leaving you undisturbed too. The site doesn't have any shower/toilet facilities which isn't a problem for us because our caravan's facilities are comfortable. Access IS down a one-way track. Its perfectly passable ie not too narrow; the only risky thing is meeting something coming the other way. We were fortunate not to meet anything when we arrived with our caravan. When we left, I walked ahead down the lane (5 minutes) to make sure nothing was coming in and it was plain sailing once I confirmed the route was clear. Its a joy to spend time on this site, with the beautiful trees and shrubs in blossom, and the birdsong we loved it. Im really glad we didnt let the limited access put us off staying there or wed have missed a treasure.

It's country enough to be away but near enough to be convenient, a bit of background noise from the airplanes but not enough to be obtrusive. A really lovely CAMPING site with marvelous friendly staff.
