    Top site for fishing

Horsley Club Site, near the North Downs. Perfect for fishing, relaxing, walking.

Our tranquil Horsley Club campsite lies just north of the beautiful Surrey Hills, popular for the network of footpaths that criss-cross them, including the long distance North Downs Way.

Horsley is a peaceful campsite tucked away down the end of a quiet lane. Although large, with some 130 pitches, campers are able to sit back and relax here – either watching the abundant wildlife – foxes, deer, rabbits and ducks are all regular visitors - or casting a line into the picturesque Horsley Lake – the campsite’s centre piece. Day fishing is available here.

The campsite has clean, modern facilities. There is a new children’s play area, dog walk and a recreation room.

The Horsley Jubilee Trail, starting at Horsley station, is a nine-mile circular walk taking in woods, historic buildings, great panoramas and a well-earned refreshment stop at a traditional English pub. You can enjoy more views of the area from Newlands Corner, a popular beauty sport in the Surrey Hills, just south of the campsite.

For days out visit the National Trust’s Polsden Lacey, a stunning Edwardian Manor House near Dorking, RHS Garden Wisely the flagship garden of the Royal Horticultural Society, and its huge plant collection, Bocketts Park Farm near Leatherhead and the Brookland Museum - home to Concorde - in Weybridge.

The theme parks Chessington World of Adventure, Legoland and Thorpe Park are all nearby.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

Nice site BUT only three showers in block which did mean we were often waiting.

Nice site BUT only three showers in block which did mean we were often waiting. The men's toilets often ran out of soap. The site is not very well lit which left us struggling to find the water when we arrived. We were in the end field, pitch 58 which was under a tree. During the night you could hear branches and bird droppings falling on top of the caravan. When we took down the awning the mess was disgusting. The site was quite muddy with not enough paths to get to the shower and back without walking through mud. Good location, only 40 mins out of London.

We were lucky enough to get a lakeside pitch.

This review is for Horsley

We were lucky enough to get a lakeside pitch. The fishing was good as the lake is well stocked with carp. The toilets were clean and tidy. Gents had no soap during the stay despite daily cleaning. Female showers had "drain smell". The shop was poorly stocked, almost empty to be fair. We were told this was because of the approaching end-of-season, but local shop was not far. The lakeside furniture was noisily (mini tractor) put away whilst guests were trying to enjoy the environment, when it should have waited until the park was empty. Little consideration in this respect. The exit is narrow, as others have mentioned, but take your time and it's fine. Overall we would recommend this site, but I feel they were already trying to shut the park down without considering their remaining guests.

Okay it was late Oct when we stayed but this site really does need a revamp.

Okay it was late Oct when we stayed but this site really does need a revamp. Especially the main toilet block. The site layout is very strange in that the main toilet block, which is in the middle of the site, is very small (only 1 private washbasin in gents). The other toilet block is even smaller and by the reception/office. So if the main toilet is closed (10:30-12:00) and you are camping at the far side you have a good 5-10 min walk to other toilets. The staff were trying to do there best, but would suggest they were slightly demoralised by the state of the site. Certainly would not return to this site when compared to all the other sites we've been to.

On a recent cycle touring trip through the South Downs and the Surrey Hills I'd had a tough dayfull of rain, wrong turns and punctures. Despite this and the continuing rain when I arrived at the campsite my spirits were instantly lifted by the friendly staff at the site. They found me a spot to pitch my tent (despite being full) and invited me to attend the annual Halloween party. Allan an assistant at the site even gave me a lift to the shop to save me cycling in the rain to grab a few supplies (beers). I was welcomed to the party fed and entertained by a the lovely Ruth and Rodney and had a lovely evening after a difficult day. I can't recommend the site or the people highly enough!
