Chertsey is on the banks of the Thames, just a 30-minute train ride from London.

This lovely riverside campsite is an oasis in the suburbs. It has a really rural feel yet is just a 30-minute train ride to London from the Weybridge station. It’s also perfectly placed for visiting some of the country’s best-loved theme parks (Lego Land, Thorpe Park and Chessington), as well as the world-famous Kew, Wisely and Savill gardens. Hampton Court and Chelsea flower shows are also within easy reach from here.

This popular site is on the banks of the River Thames. Bag yourself a riverside pitch and watch the many pleasure craft sail by. Walkers will enjoy the Thames Path Nature Trail, a towpath leading to Staines.

The sheltered site provides great facilities for campers, including a games room with TV and table tennis table.

Worth Noting

Tow Cars must remain on site overnight due to the possibility of flooding. The site is outside the Congestion Charge and Low Emission Zones. Fishing is available 16 June-15 March. Super Service pitches have TV aerial sockets. The Weybridge station is located 4 Miles from the campsite. Those with motorhomes who wish to use this station are advised to use a taxi when possible.

WiFi

100% coverage cannot be guaranteed due to rural location, weather conditions and changing flora or fauna. These can cause variable signal strength. Hotspots are available.

Eat Local

The farm shop in Lyne (approx. 10 min drive) sells a range of home-grown fruit and vegetables as wellas goose eggs, fresh bread, chutney, jams and more.

I have used quite a number of different sites in recent years.

This review is for Chertsey

I have used quite a number of different sites in recent years. Some of my comments are of a general nature and some relate just to Chertsey. The Club does not have standards for Motorhome service points (MHS). Every site is different. Many are poorly designed. The Chertsey MHS has a number problems. 1. The Chertsey MHS is on the exit route. I fill up with water when I arrive at a site as I am not allowed to drive with a full tank. Having used it I had to exit the site and return through the security gate. If it was within the site I would have been able to drive straight to my pitch. 2. The grey water disposal is a small grid on the left. My van has a grey water disposal point on the right. My van, a Rapido, is of French constriction. At least half the vans I see on the road these days are foreign. The grid should be wider than vans so that I can just drive over it and empty the grey water. 3. In order to use the grey water facilities, I had to turn the van round before and after disposing of my grey water, blocking the exit for other vehicles wanting to leave the site. 4. The chemical disposal is a drains manhole cover. It was dirty with lots of used toilet paper and no facility to clean it. Why do you provide a chemical disposal at the MHS? The Caravan Club does not. Motorhome users are expected to use the the chemical toilet disposal points provided for caravans. As long as users know where facilities are, they will happily use those facilities. Removing the manhole cover would clean the area up and save you money. I return to my main point, The club should draw up general standards for MHS which members are allowed to comment on. They should then be applied across all sites when facilities are upgraded.

We visited Kew gardens by train which was very easy and for 4 of us cost just over 6 each. RHS Wisley too which we had to use the car for, but only took 20 minutes to get there. Brooklands Museum is also very close by and easy to get to. Chertsey is quite a large town with plenty of shops and attractions. It is at M3 junc 2 so easy to get to.

We felt that - because this site is mainly for tourist visits to London - a comprehensive and detailed booklet [chargeable?] should be produced covering public transport links - buses and trains and underground - to the main tourist spots and made available to Motorhome owners and others who don't want to drive, for whatever reason. Alternatively, the site staff could be better clued up on this important feature.
