    Top site for beaches

This campsite is just over a mile from the beach and next to Africa Alive wildlife park.

The glorious beaches of the Suffolk coast are just one of the draws for our lovely Kessingland Club campsite which is tucked away behind the former fishing village with which is shares its name.

The campsite is spacious and well presented with level pitches, a family shower room, laundry and disabled facilities as well as a small site shop selling essentials.

The sand/shingle Kessingland Beach, is just a mile and a half from the campsite. This huge expanse of sand and sand hills (seals can be spotted from here) is popular with families. The beach also runs into Benacre nature reserve - famous for bird sightings every spring as migrating birds hit British land fall.

The area around our Kessingland campsite is great for animal lovers – in addition to Benacre you can see 300 species of birds at the RSBP reserve at Minsmere and right next door to the campsite is Africa Alive wildlife park, home to more than 80 species of animals from around Africa. Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens near Great Yarmouth has a tiger compound and tree-top walk to view the animals.

Lowestoft has everything you need for a traditional British seaside holiday from Victorian Seafront Gardens, fountains and two piers, plus Blue Flag award winning beaches. The sandy Lowestoft Beach, North Claremont has two piers and a number of cafes and seafront shops. The vast expanse of sand of the Blue Flag Lowestoft Beach, South Claremont makes it the ideal beach for sunbathing and sandcastles. Beach huts can be hired and there is an area with shops.

Head south to the beautiful seaside resort of Southwold. The town’s Museum and Sailor’s Reading Room provide an insight into the towns maritime past. There’s also a boating lake, Adnam’s Brewery is based in the town and head to the seafront to enjoy the award-winning beach, also famous for its colourful beach huts.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

Please note: There are no grass-only pitches at this campsite so an additional pitch fee applies. There are also wind turbines near the campsite so you may hear some noise from them.

Worth Noting

This Site has especially hard ground but is well drained. TV signal is poor. Wind turbines adjacent to the site may generate some noise.

I have left positives in the last review however left this negative out in case I had misunderstood the information given to me. However after speaking to a friend who visited a month ago we both were told the same information and interpreted it the same. We were both told that if you book two nights with the camp site and you wished to visit Africa Alive then for an extra four pounds per person (which you paid at Africa Alive alongside the campsite receipt) you got in for unlimited access throughout your stay at the campsite. This however is not correct as we unfortunately found out at the payment desk. The offer is you have to pay an extra four pounds per person ON TOP of the normal Africa Alive admission rate. This made our day out very expensive! Over sixty pounds just for the entry alongside the fifty six pounds for the two nights. Whereas we were led to believe that it would be fifty six pounds plus an extra sixteen pounds total (for four people) to enter the Africa Alive.

The positives: Nice and quiet. Clean.

The positives: Nice and quiet. Clean. The wind turbines noise for us did not disturb our sleep or enjoyment. Negatives: Nothing at all for the children to do. No ball games allowed and the two bits of equipment were for children under four. My five and ten year old had nothing to do whilst on the campsite only climb up a tree. The wind turbines upset the TV so we could not even watch that. With the showers you could see others dirty water come past your feet which I felt was not pleasant. There was not much of a shop, though I believe it may be due to the end of season there was only a few items on the shelf (tins of food) and a bit in a fridge freezer. Disappointed given the price and lack of children's facilities.

Easy access. Two large wind turbines can be noisey but you soon ignore them.

Easy access. Two large wind turbines can be noisey but you soon ignore them. Freeview reception is good. Short walk to nearest pub with burger style of meals, much longer walk into Kessingland beach area, a good 30 minutes of fast walking. 20-25 minutes drive from RSPB Minsmere (where Spring Watch is filmed). NWT reserve at Hickling Broad is well worth a visit, ring first to book space on their boat trip.

Staff very helpful, we brought our guinea pigs and tortoise, and was allocated a shady corner spot, which was perfect. Facilities very clean, super showers, Africa alive literally next door, once paid entrance fee, if you show caravan and camping receipt for extra £3-4 can have unlimited entry throughout your stay, we orginially booked for 5 nights, but liked it so much stayed for seven, visited african alive most days, just for few hours each day, lovely park where animals are looked after amazingly, the beach at lowestoft very clean, tractor cleaned beach every day, super white soft sand, free park run 5k every saturday along the prom, we found a cafe very delightful called The coconut loft, art gallery and coffee lounge, best coffee ever in lovely relaxing surroundings, browse art work jewellery, and lots home made items very reasonably price, the owners lovely couple, cafe on waterloo road, minsmere nature reserve worth a day visit too, lots to do, would hope to return one day.
