    Top site for beaches

This campsite is just over a mile from the beach and next to Africa Alive wildlife park.

The glorious beaches of the Suffolk coast are just one of the draws for our lovely Kessingland Club campsite which is tucked away behind the former fishing village with which is shares its name.

The campsite is spacious and well presented with level pitches, a family shower room, laundry and disabled facilities as well as a small site shop selling essentials.

The sand/shingle Kessingland Beach, is just a mile and a half from the campsite. This huge expanse of sand and sand hills (seals can be spotted from here) is popular with families. The beach also runs into Benacre nature reserve - famous for bird sightings every spring as migrating birds hit British land fall.

The area around our Kessingland campsite is great for animal lovers – in addition to Benacre you can see 300 species of birds at the RSBP reserve at Minsmere and right next door to the campsite is Africa Alive wildlife park, home to more than 80 species of animals from around Africa. Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens near Great Yarmouth has a tiger compound and tree-top walk to view the animals.

Lowestoft has everything you need for a traditional British seaside holiday from Victorian Seafront Gardens, fountains and two piers, plus Blue Flag award winning beaches. The sandy Lowestoft Beach, North Claremont has two piers and a number of cafes and seafront shops. The vast expanse of sand of the Blue Flag Lowestoft Beach, South Claremont makes it the ideal beach for sunbathing and sandcastles. Beach huts can be hired and there is an area with shops.

Head south to the beautiful seaside resort of Southwold. The town’s Museum and Sailor’s Reading Room provide an insight into the towns maritime past. There’s also a boating lake, Adnam’s Brewery is based in the town and head to the seafront to enjoy the award-winning beach, also famous for its colourful beach huts.

Please note: There are no grass-only pitches at this campsite so an additional pitch fee applies. There are also wind turbines near the campsite so you may hear some noise from them.

This site shares an entrance road to Africa Alive (look out for the brown signs as our sat nav wasn't a great help!), sharing the road can have a disadvantage of zoo traffic and walkers whilst trying to navigate a narrow road. Upon arrival we were met with a warm welcome, we were taken down towards the childrens play area and give the option of a few pitches. We chose right next to the park, the children soon made friends and where out playing as much as the weather allowed. After heavy rain the site very quickly drained and once again the children reappeared at the play area. Communal areas were kept spotless by staff with the bins being regularly emptied, in fact I never saw a full bin! The dog area was very small and it really wasn't enough to exercise your dog, just maybe somewhere for them to toilet, however, again it was spotless. My children(girls) were so impressed with the shower block they disappeared for an hour having a nice hot shower followed by a free hair dryer! I did use the laundrette facilities, proving to be helpful not having to do it all at home ;-) a very large load cost less than 5 including drying. The wind turbines really aren't anything to worry about and didn't bother us at all. We heard the low guttural call of the lions which were pretty impressive. Thank you guys for a lovely stay and one we will repeat soon I'm sure!

The friendliest welcome and siting of our van set the tone for the week-end.

The friendliest welcome and siting of our van set the tone for the week-end. The wardens are the friendliest I have met. We had torrential rain one evening but the ground drained very well. We had no trouble with pitching the awning although we were advised the ground was hard.

The campsite itself is well laid out and always appeared to be clean and tidy - the toilet shower blocks were of a good order - the shower units were starting to look a little tired but the showers were always warm. All of the staff we met were friendly and helpful. I did find the opening hours of the shop a little late (9AM) but made use of the local co-op for fresh bread for breakfast in the morning. The biggest issue I have with the site is the Wind Turbines. They are a blight on the site. Someone else has made a comment about every site having noise which I accept but this noise is of a different kind. It's a repetitive sound all day long. In a gentle breeze it's as if a plane is circling continually overhead in a stronger wind the whoosh of each blade is emphasised. It's truly awful; all day and all night. when the sun comes out in the morning or evening you then have the added displeasure of a strobe like effect as the blades cut through the sun which made both my wife and I feel queasy. If we return to the area - which is likely - we would unfortunately have to look for an alternative campsite on which to stay.

Wind Turbines are Not A problem. TV signal is not good to poor.

Wind Turbines are Not A problem. TV signal is not good to poor. Shower cubicles are large if limited in number. Africa Alive is very good. An all-day attraction good for kids. Our 3 & 1 year old grand kids were very happy there all day. Kessingland Beach is a 30 mins walk and only worthwhile if weather is not bad. Playground on Site is good but limited. Site is easy to find. Just off the A12 with same entrance as the Zoo. Wardens very friendly. Opening hours for the office are rather limited. We found some Visitors somewhat less than responsible, with unsupervised children & deliberate blocking of a toilet disappointing. They were more a danger to themselves (the children) than others. We would return here again, in summer hoping for good weather. The Zoo is worth at least 2 days discovering. The Beach has 1 pub ..... Mixed reviews I would expect . There are lengthy walks along the coast, but this needs good weather. Pitches are level with no problems for tent pegs despite warning of hard ground.
