Tranquillity close to the heart of England on a campsite in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

This Club campsite sits on the edge of one the Midlands’ most popular beauty spots, Cannock Chase. A combination of natural deciduous woodland, coniferous plantations and open heathland the Chase – England’s smallest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – offers boundless adventure and fun for walkers, mountain bikers and dog lovers alike and is perfectly located for exploring the attractions of Cannock, Lichfield, Birmingham and the surrounding area.

Our pretty campsite here is well laid out and bordered by trees. It offers level hardstanding pitches, while grass pitches tend to be sloping. In addition to showers and toilets, the site offers washing up facilities, a site shop offering basic provisions and a family room and there is direct access from the site onto the Chase.

The Chase is definitely the big appeal of this site. As well as its bountiful wildlife, it offers endless walking and miles of exhilarating mountain bike trails, including the famous Follow the Dog trail and new Monkey Trail, which start from Birches Valley Forest Centre.

Worth Noting

Some pitches are sloping so chocks will be required, and all grass pitches are sloping. Poor TV and mobile reception on site. New play area for children and new bike wash – perfect for use after cycling the trails

One comment. We have used this site several times to attend an event in Lichfield. It is always very close to 11pm when we return so sometimes the gates are locked. We feel that the overnight car park (6 spaces) is too small especially as this is not particularly an area where I would want to leave my car on the road, or even in the lay-by just along from the site entrance. As it happens this year we made it back just before the gates shut, but at 10:50 pm there were already 5 of the 6 spaces full. Who could those cars have belonged to we wondered? Not visitors by then so they must have been second cars of campers on site. That left VERY little space for anyone late back. It seems to us that if second cars are not allowed on site then sufficient off-site spaces need to be provided for them AND late arrivals.

I have just enjoyed one of the most enjoyable week long breaks I have had in 24 years of club membership. The site management team were wonderfully friendly on arrival and perfect hosts for anything I needed during my stay. This site offers a huge number of walks and bike trails for all ages and capabilities, and perfect for those who wish to avoid using their car. Cannock Chase visitor's centre is a comfortable walk from the sites rear gate which will take most people a little over an hour. Fabulous views of the area (Castle Ring) are to be had from a fabulous walk (about an hour) which you can join from directly opposite the site's main entrance. An OS Map is a good investment and available from the site shop alongside all the usual tourist leaflets and essential provisions. Major supermarkets are within a 10 minute drive and a similar distance gets you to a range of nice country pubs with a good standard of typical pub food. In short .. a compact but well laid out site which never feels over crowded .. even during a busy warm weather weekend. Mobile phone reception can be problematic on the site and in the surrounding area so if you are normally welded to your phone then this might not be the site for you. The TV signal is similarly hit and miss but should allow for reception on most pitches via a decent aerial. My view is that this is the perfect site to get away from it all, albeit close enough to towns like Stafford and Lichfield which are potentially nice days out in themselves. I would recommend this site and location to all age groups and certainly to those with young adventurous children. I would offer a huge thank you to the site managers who really do set the right tone and made me feel very welcome.

Nice clean and well run site. Useful shop on site stocking some handy basics. Very friendly welcome from the owners who clearly take a pride in the place. Good location for exploring Cannock Chase and the local area. Wifi on site very useful as next to no mobile coverage. I can recommend the Chetwynd Arms at Upper Longdon which is less than 2 miles away. Food and drink very good and reasonably priced.
