Overview

  • A popular site for couples

    Great site for couples

Our site in the Mendips  between Wells and Cheddar, and surrounded by walking country.

Our gorgeous Cheddar Club campsite is set in the heart of the beautiful Mendip Hills – an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Its rural location on the edge of the village of Priddy – the highest village on the Mendip Hills – makes this the perfect location for a relaxing break.

The well laid out site has excellent shower and toilet facilities, including a family room, plus a laundry, and a well-stocked licensed shop selling local produce. Special rates are available for backpackers arriving on foot or by bike. And there are two well-equipped holiday caravans for hire, each sleeping up to six people.

Within walking distance is the village of Priddy. Here you’ll find a couple of pubs and the Priddy Good Farm Shop, selling a range of locally produced meats and home-made pies. Priddy also hosts a popular folk festival in July.

Further afield Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole, Longleat and the cities of Bath and Wells are waiting to be explored.

Cheddar currently holds an AA 4 Pennant Award and a 4 Star Visit Britain Award

If you fancy leaving the unit behind, consider a hassle free break in one of our new holiday caravans. Our self-catering options sleep 4-6 people and have all the creature comforts of home. For more information check out our self catering pages Read More

Worth Noting

Two holiday caravans available to let - find out more. Some pitches are slightly sloping. Due to unforeseen circumstances we are no longer able to give campers access to the dog walk along the drovers track at the bottom of our site. However there are many public footpaths in the area, the closest of which is opposite the entrance to our site. Please note that there may be sheep, cattle or horses in the fields, and your dog must be kept on a lead. The footpaths may become very muddy during wet weather, so stout shoes or wellingtons are recommended.

WiFi

WiFi is available at this site. However please note the service is supplied by a different provider therefore your Site WiFi card (powered by WiComs) cannot be used. Please contact the site direct for more information.

Eat Local

The site shop stocks locally-produced bacon, sausage, lamb, burgers, chicken, eggs, cheese, cider and ales. Bread and pastries are baked on site. There is a farm butcher next to site and a farmers’ market in Wells. The village pubs serve local produce.

On entry to the site, there is a very steep downhill section leading to the security barrier, which presents difficulty for disabled visitors who then have to make their way back uphill to reach the reception where a number of steps need to be negotiated in order to enter the office to check in. The disabled toilets are similarly situated at the highest point on the site and do not provide step free access.. Given the location and nature of the site, these challenges may clearly be difficult for the Club to address, but the least they could do would be to alert members before they place their booking. Whilst their website contains a download link to their UK Club Site Access Statement (last updated in 2010) this provides no assistance in this respect.

Online it states that the onsite dog walk is no longer available, however the video and the printed material still site there is an onsite dog walk. I was walking my dog around the site and when it went to the toilet I picked up immediately only for the site warden to rush over and say in a non too friendly manner that there is no dog fouling at all anywhere on site as it causes a hazard and they have to be taken off site. I have a number of issues with this as firstly dogs are animals and do not always toilet on command and secondly the road outside the site has no pavements and no street lights so in my opinion it very dangerous. We actually left early as did not want another episode with one of the site wardens. We will not be returning to this site.

Our first time at a Camping & Caravanning Club Site. Staff were v friendly and welcoming. The toilet facilities were clean and well looked after & the shop sold everything you needed. Beautiful scenery and great location for visiting Cheddar Gorge, where we had a lovely day out. A few negatives: Some music through the night which was a little disturbing but not the fault of the site. Our pitch was slightly sloping but manageable, there are flat pitches though so would probably choose a different pitch next time. Kids were told they couldn't play ball outside the tent, only on the playground area, which was a shame as they are only little and it's nice for them to play where we can see them. Would have liked access to a freezer for freezing our freezer blocks, rather than having to hire the ones there (is this the same on all Camping & Caravanning Club Sites?) Overall though we had a lovely weekend and would probably visit the site again.

“Had a wonderful 4 days at this lovely site. Bakery on site so had fresh croissants and pain au chocolat for final day breakfast. Also tried the local pub for great food, beer and cider and a short walk home to walk it off! Highly recommended.”
