The surrounding area

Our Minehead Club campsite lies just outside the stunning Exmoor National Park, close to the beaches of the Exmoor Heritage Coast and a mile-and-a-half from the Minehead, Somerset’s largest seaside resort.

There are lovely walks from the site including a lovely wooded walk into Minehead centre. Minehead is also the starting point for the South West Coast Path, a long-distance trail that follows the coast to Poole. The town is also the terminus of the West Somerset Steam Railway, which travels through 20 miles of stunning coastal and countryside scenery.

South of the campsite, Wimbleball Reservoir offers sailing, canoeing and wind surfing – launch your own craft or hire from the lake’s activity centre. Anglers have been known to catch rainbow trout here. You can fish from the banks or hire a boat. There is nine-mile walking and cycling track around the lake too.

Friendly welcome when we arrived. Nothing too much trouble.

Friendly welcome when we arrived. Nothing too much trouble. The toilet block was very clean and always smelt fresh. I loved the 'thought for the day', this was such a nice touch. This site is a dogs paradise, there are so many different walks. Beautiful scenery loved it up on the moors looking across to wales. Lovely views of Minehead, day and night. The descent into Minehead was easy going, enjoying the coastal views and the woods, the return journey was strenuous, the taxi back is the best option if you feel tired.

As other reviews, the site wardens are helpful and friendly.

As other reviews, the site wardens are helpful and friendly. We were given a choice of two adjacent grass with electric pitches, but found that neither were very flat for our campervan. Even with wedges, we didn't get that level. There don't appear to be many grass/electirc pitches and we were fairly open to the wind. Toilet and shower blocks are old, but work well and always clean. Shower cubicles have room to keep clothes dry and to dry off and dress. Also good doormats inside so you can wipe feet before entering. A food van visits each morning with bread rolls, milk, eggs, pastries and newspapers. Fairly quiet site, but lots of motorhomes go out each day. We even witnessed two units moving to better pitches that were vacated, to get better views. This happened between leaving time 12.00 and arrival time 13.00 and was quite amusing. Note that the end of site near reception does not have sea views, but the far end does. The wardens recommended woodland walk then lanes down to Minehead (about 25 minutes to the harbour). We walked back up twice, but one evening got a taxi back up for 7.00.

Loved this site for many reasons.

Loved this site for many reasons. The two wardens are very friendly and helpful and kept the site very clean. The location was out on Exmoor with fantastic views over the coastline . It was quiet and away from any noisy main roads and yet you could walk down into Minehead in 20 minutes. Great value for money too.

Family stayed in one of the Ready Camp Tents, friendly welcome, clean facilities...

Family stayed in one of the Ready Camp Tents, friendly welcome, clean facilities (showers/toilets/washing sinks etc) quiet site. Gates locked between 11pm-7am. Small shop sells groceries, a delivery man comes every day at 0930hrs with bread, fruit etc. There are no ball games permitted so kids felt not much to do. Stunning views over the coast, approx 20-30 minute walk to town centre, walk down a country path at the side of the site past cows and sheep (rather rocky , steep path) that led to the maze of narrow streets of North Hill, we did walk back up twice (felt an achievement but legs did pay for it the following day). Unfortunately we was not blessed with great weather and left a day earlier than schedule. Overall a nice break.
