This is a Certificated Site (CS). These select sites are small, privately run campsites that operates under the Club’s jurisdiction and can only accommodate up to 5 caravans or motorhomes and up to 10 trailer tents or tents, unless express permission has been given by the Club to accommodate more. You get a warm welcome from Mrs. Carter on arrival and I was pleased not to see a bossy notice board full of rules and regulations. After checking in that you're left in peace. Site is secluded from the main route from Cheddar to the A38. Traffic can be heavy at times, there being a quarry nearby, but you get used to it and it can be blocked out with headphones or ear muffs. Facilities are basic, but clean, and the shower is an ideal temperature. Anyone wanting a fairground atmosphere would be disappointed but as I was seeking peace on a secluded site, then it was ideal. Close by there's a well stocked Spar shop and fuel station and nearby Cheddar has everything you might seek during a short break. The reservoir is a perfect place for a quiet walk, whether you choose to go around it or just a short way. Not far away is Axbridge, another quiet town worth a visit. The visual backdrop is a stunning view of Cheddar Woods covering the hill. The same hill gives shelter from the easterly winds. The site cannot be seen from the road, being concealed by a high hedge. The remaining surround is hedging and agricultural land. Skirting the site is the old railway (Strawberry Line) from Yatton, now converted to a cycle path, and is easily accessible from the site. For a peaceful break, in relative security and seclusion, I recommend it. Other campers had dogs and they seemed to enjoy their stay as well.
