Overview

This is a Certificated Site (CS). These select sites are small, privately run campsites that operates under the Club’s jurisdiction and can only accommodate up to 5 caravans or motorhomes and up to 10 trailer tents or tents, unless express permission has been given by the Club to accommodate more. They range from secluded Hideaways to fully facilitated family friendly sites, and are often found in locations where larger commercial sites are prohibited so you could be camping close to a beach or in the National Park, for example.

This site is in a beautiful area with lovely views and camping lawn. The new Craft Shepherds Hut is a place to potter and share crafty ideas! On site tutorials are to be arranged including beading, jewellery, crochet, knitting, encaustic wax, willow and more.. The smallholdings vintage vehicles provide a talking point for enthusiasts, an airstream, 1947 show wagon and pretty gypsy wagon. (Gypsy pod can be hired only £25 p.n.) We aim for self sufficiency in pork, beef, eggs and vegetables. We sell spare produce when we can. There are two natural ponds encouraging wild life. There is a nature hide where an otter was spotted. Dragon flies and birds can be seen in the new woodlands and pathways meander around the rapidly growing trees. It is peaceful and tranquil, willow is evident everywhere with domes, tunnels and hedges, and other structures are planned as the new willow craft emerges.

Phil and Roslyn Hill are the epitome of green living.

This review is for Acorns Smallholding

Phil and Roslyn Hill are the epitome of green living. They live off-grid and are self sufficient. When I drove through the gate, I thought at first I had driven on to someone's lawn. This is an indication of how well kept this place is. There is nothing negative to say about Acorns Smallholding, but there is hardly room to list the positives. First of all the landscape. they didn't have a woodland, so they have planted one of their own down the bottom end of the field. One of the "products" is Willow for weaving. Several carefully mown footpaths meander around the site, bring delight at every corner. They have dug two ponds which are a haven for wildlife, one of which is overlooked by a hoop topped Gypsy caravan, which is normally rented out, but due to the recent high winds and a broken window, it's inhabitants are a family of Robins. So the Hills will not rent it out until the non-paying guests have departed. The whole site is neat and tidy, but this does not impinge of the wild nature of the place. Walking is made easy which in turn makes it easy to seen the abundance of wildlife. Buzzards were overhead whilst we were there. Also whilst we were there, both sows each had a litter of piglets, some of whose predecessors, we brought home in the form of sausages. (I told you the Hills were self sufficient!) I would love to be around to visit the site in twenty year's time, when the woodland is mature. But for now, most of the trees are around two or more metres high and lovely with it. By the way I forgot to say there is a real flushing WC (as well as Elsan disposal) if you are a proper camper. The ground could not be better for pitching a tent. I would certainly recommend visiting this pretty well perfect camp site, we will be back!

Lovely site with friendly and informative owners, with views, a lawned camp area, a hidden secluded area to sit and ponder. Loved the piglets and new calf. Phil and Roz are knowledgeable about the area and happy to suggest places to visit - our dog Rye certainly loved the nearby mere. Would certainly visit again when in the area and would love to try out the gypsy van when ready.
