Overview

Between the North York Moors National Park and the Howardian Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this peaceful campsite welcomes you to Yorkshire.

Our pretty Slingsby Club campsite sits between the rolling Howardian Hills to the south and the Vale of Pickering and the North York Moors National Park to the north making the campsite a popular base for walkers.

Situated in a peaceful location on the edge of a village, the level, well maintained campsite has modern facilities including a laundry, dish washing area and a well equipped amenity block.

There are plenty of walking opportunities direct from the campsite. Slingsby village, for example, is within walking distance and surrounded by an intricate network of lanes, footpaths and bridleways.

The area is dotted with magnificent historic buildings. Take your pick from gems including the magnificent 18th century Castle Howard, Nunnington Hall, Newburgh Abbey, Helmsley Castle and Rievaulx Abbey.

Three of the area’s most popular attractions are within 15 miles of the campsite. There’s Flamingoland with its wild animals and wilder rides, the modern history theme museum – Eden Camp and the North York Moors Railway which runs a scenic route from Pickering to Whitby.

The medieval city of York, around a half hour’s drive away, is famous for its city walls, minster and a variety of museums. The city’s Park and Ride scheme accommodates motorhomes.

There are only Club Service pitches so the fee of £3.85 will apply at all times.

The site assistant, Christine, was very helpful in finding us our perfect pitch.

The site assistant, Christine, was very helpful in finding us our perfect pitch. Slingsby is a small peaceful site with an excellent dog walk on a disused railway line opposite the site. We visited Pickering, which has shops for her and a heritage railway for me! We also visited Whitby, very busy, but has a bit of everything. We also visited Castle Howard, a bit pricey but reasonable value for money, great if like walking the dogs through woodland and gardens.

Queues for the men's toilet, as only two cubicles.

Queues for the men's toilet, as only two cubicles. Women's has tiny hand wash sink consequently the soap was only filled marginally. So no soap approx 2 hours after cleaning.

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome.

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome. We were shown to our pitch and given lots of helpful and useful information on the way - especially being told about the lovely bakery at the top of the lane. This was our first visit to this site but we will definitely be returning for a longer stay. The site is very level so easy to pitch and has the added bonus of many hanging baskets and flower pots all helping to make it very inviting. The toilet/shower facilities were well maintained being constantly cleaned throughout the day. Well done to all the staff who make this a lovely, relaxing place to stay.

This site is excellent for walkers.

This site is excellent for walkers. The Village has a superb pub and also a Sports & Social Club. There is a lovely level walk over to Hovingham which has two cafes: The Park is one and The Spa Tea Rooms is the other. Both serve amazing food and cakes. The bakery is second to none and the local store is well stocked. Further visitor attractions are Castle Howard and the Lavender Tea Rooms at Terrington. Dalby Forest, Pickering and the coast are all within easy reach. Lastly, there is a fantastic walk from Helmsley to Revieux Abby. Ooops, must not forget the walks around Sutton Bank which also has a cafe that is highly recommended.
