Overview

Camping near York doesn't get much better than Sheriff Hutton.

The historic city of York is just a few miles from our pretty Sheriff Hutton Club campsite and the North York Moors and the coastal towns of Bridlington and Filey are within easy reach.

Our immaculate, well-manicured tree-lined campsite offers a tranquil base from which to explore the local area. It has 90 grass and hardstand pitches and modern facilities including a parent and child wet room with a baby change station, sink, top and tail bowl, toilet and shower. There are also laundry facilities, a small play area in the centre of the site with swings, a slide and climbing section and a small site shop.

The local village of Sheriff Hutton has a post office, two charming pubs, castle ruins and a point to point race course.

With Roman, Viking and medieval heritage, York has much to see and do. York Minster, the Yorvik Viking Centre and the National Railway Museum head up the list. You can also take a boat trip on the River Ouse and join a walking tour.

Great family days out include Creepy Crawlies - an indoor/outdoor adventure play centre with café – on the outskirts of York. Flamingo Land at Malton combines animals and theme rides and Monk Farm near Thirsk is full of cuddly animals.

The Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington is based on a World War Two Bomber Command Station and Eden Camp Modern History Theme Museum is housed within an original Prisoner of War Camp.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

Arrived on Saturday of a bank holiday weekend. Site was very busy.

Arrived on Saturday of a bank holiday weekend. Site was very busy. We had booked a jumbo pitch but could have managed with a normal size pitch. Wardens were helpful when pitching. Facilities were spotless and showers were the best we have seen. Great parent washing area where you could alter the temperature of the showers which was a great addition! Only downside is nobody patrolled the site for noise late at night - but not a major issue. Great pubs nearby and a great little takeaway too(pizza-world) would definitely go back.

Wow the best things do come in small packages!! We aimply loved this site. Perfect pitch right by a fabulous play park, excellent clean facilities, family room! Every detail thought about, even pegs to. Even to peg your washing out! Sink drainers in the wash up, extra pegs in the showers etc! Info on supermarkets would have been useful but just ask and the guys can tell you or of course you can use the ever faithful google maps! There's a brilliant village shop/post office in sherif Hutton that sells the best bacon and pies! The pubs in sherif Hutton don't open till about 5pm but go the other way to Strensall and there's are 2 family friendly pubs. We particularly liked the Half moon, lovely enclosed garden with lots of toys for the kids and a very warm welcome. The chippy in Strensall also sells the most amazing fish and chips and the cakes are pretty good too! We had a visit to York, we took the 181 bus from the villages of Sherif Hutton 6.20 return and told about 40 mins. Well worth it! There are lots of park and rides around though. When in York, I can highly recommend lunch in Cosomo, 8.50 all you can eat world buffet, kids under 1.5m half price. I've never seen so much food! Also if you go to Jorvik do book, the queue was huge so sadly didn't get to go this time! This little site is a gem and definitely worth a visit! We can't wait to go back!! Thanks for having us Sheriff Hutton! See you again soon!

We came here on our way to Scotland on our motorbike.

We came here on our way to Scotland on our motorbike. A helpful, friendly greeting and we were shown to an immaculate and level grassy pitch close to the facilities block. Sheriff Hutton is about a mile down the road and can be walked with care as the verges had been carefully cut when we arrived. Decent pub and the village and there is a bus to York, even on a Sunday. Would definitely go back.
