Overview

Camping near York doesn't get much better than Sheriff Hutton.

The historic city of York is just a few miles from our pretty Sheriff Hutton Club campsite and the North York Moors and the coastal towns of Bridlington and Filey are within easy reach.

Our immaculate, well-manicured tree-lined campsite offers a tranquil base from which to explore the local area. It has 90 grass and hardstand pitches and modern facilities including a parent and child wet room with a baby change station, sink, top and tail bowl, toilet and shower. There are also laundry facilities, a small play area in the centre of the site with swings, a slide and climbing section and a small site shop.

The local village of Sheriff Hutton has a post office, two charming pubs, castle ruins and a point to point race course.

With Roman, Viking and medieval heritage, York has much to see and do. York Minster, the Yorvik Viking Centre and the National Railway Museum head up the list. You can also take a boat trip on the River Ouse and join a walking tour.

Great family days out include Creepy Crawlies - an indoor/outdoor adventure play centre with café – on the outskirts of York. Flamingo Land at Malton combines animals and theme rides and Monk Farm near Thirsk is full of cuddly animals.

The Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington is based on a World War Two Bomber Command Station and Eden Camp Modern History Theme Museum is housed within an original Prisoner of War Camp.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

We had a lovely stay here, although weather was rotten, the wardens were lovely people we have a disabled daughter and they went out there way to pitch us close to the lovely immaculately clean facilities. We would definitely stay again. Well Done

We only stayed for 3 nights, but found the site to be everything we had been looking for and fairly spacious. We wanted somewhere fairly quiet and we were shown to a lovely quiet spot, that wasn't too near the children's play area. The ablutions were lovely and clean and there was plenty of hanging hooks in each shower cubicle. My only complaint was the wood pigeon, with the hobnail boots, who decided to run up and down the roof of our van at 0500hrs!!! Apart from that, the site was lovely and well kept and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. We'll certainly go back.

Meant to review this site on our return last year, but forgot till now. The place is a real Gem & a Credit to the Camping & Caravan Club. The Wardens are great, friendly & welcoming. Another few days there & I think Steve might well have persuaded us to chuck in our jobs & become wardens too. There's loads to see & do in the area, including of course Castle Howard. If you drive out onto the moors, forget Goathland (base for the TV series Heartbeat) which is quaint, but a tad commercialised. Instead drive down to Beck Hole to the smallest pub ever & sink a jar or 2 in the Beck Hall Inn, in the company of Glenys & her other half. We had the pleasure of being able to watch the Local Quoits Championship Final, take lots of cool pics & Get invited back to the Pub to celebrate with the players. A great Holiday, which started with the Sherrif Hutton Site. well done All.
