Overview

Camping near York doesn't get much better than Sheriff Hutton.

The historic city of York is just a few miles from our pretty Sheriff Hutton Club campsite and the North York Moors and the coastal towns of Bridlington and Filey are within easy reach.

Our immaculate, well-manicured tree-lined campsite offers a tranquil base from which to explore the local area. It has 90 grass and hardstand pitches and modern facilities including a parent and child wet room with a baby change station, sink, top and tail bowl, toilet and shower. There are also laundry facilities, a small play area in the centre of the site with swings, a slide and climbing section and a small site shop.

The local village of Sheriff Hutton has a post office, two charming pubs, castle ruins and a point to point race course.

With Roman, Viking and medieval heritage, York has much to see and do. York Minster, the Yorvik Viking Centre and the National Railway Museum head up the list. You can also take a boat trip on the River Ouse and join a walking tour.

Great family days out include Creepy Crawlies - an indoor/outdoor adventure play centre with café – on the outskirts of York. Flamingo Land at Malton combines animals and theme rides and Monk Farm near Thirsk is full of cuddly animals.

The Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington is based on a World War Two Bomber Command Station and Eden Camp Modern History Theme Museum is housed within an original Prisoner of War Camp.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

This site is just the thing if you are wanting a relaxing time, time to unwind, this site has it,although there are 90 pitches you are not feeling closed in with enough space for an awning, the shower block is kept spotless as are all the facilities, the site is literally 15minutes from York which is a bonus, and for other attractions, the air museum is definitely a must,as is the shambles, monks cross retail park is only 10 minutes away, there is a 24hour asda and a sainsburys, plus a selection of other stores, boots,m&s,outfit, etc, all in all definitely a place to come back to we certainly will

The site is fairly open with flat pitches.

This review is for Sheriff Hutton

The site is fairly open with flat pitches. The toilet block is OK but the showers need updating.TV reception is very good, but WiFi is non-existant unless you are next to the office block. The site is centrally placed for access to York, Helmsley, Pickering, N.York Moors and the coast.Getting into York is very easy via the Monks Cross Park&Ride. Nearest shopping is at a small Tesco about 3 miles away in Strensall.

Access to York Park & Rides useful.

This review is for Sheriff Hutton

Access to York Park & Rides useful. Particularly enjoyed Coxwold, Beninbrough Hall, Pickering church wall paintings & Burton Agnes Hall and Gardens. Local pub friendly but food not special. Good supermarkets not that local. Recommend Haxby for food purchase, The Paddy Fields and Fish and Chip restaurant. Methodist Church there very welcoming. We would come again.

Sheriff Hutton is an excellent site with good facilities and friendly staff.

Sheriff Hutton is an excellent site with good facilities and friendly staff. It is well located for York and local attractions. Normally I would have awarded 5 stars but for the useless wifi, which allowed me to log on for long enough to pay the annual fee then wouldn't work for the remainder of our stay. It transpires that there is only one antenna which is on reception. It only covers a small area and is not available to a majority of site users. This is not good enough. If payment is taken for a service it should be provided throughout the site.
