Near Scarborough, this site is ideal for exploring Yorkshire’s coast and moors.

Our Scarborough Club campsite lies just north of the Victorian seaside resort of the same name and is perfectly located for exploring the North Yorkshire Heritage Coast and the North York Moors National Park.

Scarborough is a large family-friendly campsite with 300 pitches. It is a spacious site with well-placed modern facility blocks. Younger campers are catered for with two play parks and a football pitch and there’s a recreation room too. There’s a small on site chippy, a well stocked shop and a dog exercise field.

From the campsite, it’s an easy walk to the town’s Sea Life and Marine Sanctuary and the North Bay beach along a pleasant cliff-top path. The site is a ten-minute walk from the Cleveland Way National Trail which hugs the North Yorkshire coast and a traffic-free cycle path passes close to the site on the way to Whitby.

West of the campsite North Riding Forest Park (or Dalby Forest as it is also known) has many waymarked trails for walkers and mountain bikers. You can go orienteering here too. Go Ape! Offers tree top adventure with ropes and zip wires or, if you prefer to keep your feet on the ground, enjoy the forest on a Segway.

Head north to Staintondale for the Shire Horse centre. Learn about the North Yorkshire coast at the Ravenscar Coastal Centre. From here it’s a three-mile beach walk to the pretty fishing village of Robin Hood’s Bay. Whitby, ten miles further on, offers the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, Lifeboat Museum and Whitby Abbey. Catch a train to Grosmont, the terminus for the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. This 18-mile heritage line runs across the National Park to Pickering. Jump off at Goathland (or Aidensfield for TVs Heartbeat fans).

Ready Camp is available at this campsite.

Helpful site staff advised of building site noise and recommended a different location within the site on arrival. The new glamping tents have taken some prime touring pitches. A good base for the local area with several resorts within easy reach and site is also close to the Cleveland Way which provides excellent coastal walking.

The unheated facility blocks that were open are becoming very tired looking.

The unheated facility blocks that were open are becoming very tired looking. At the beginning of the season at least one hook should be available in each shower cubical. The view to the west of the site is now spoilt by the ongoing construction of an housing estate. Don't waste your money on a 'hard-standing' at this site as they are just grass/mud on plastic reinforcing.

Due to some poor reviews, I decided to try it out just for 2 nights to see it would be ok for a main holiday. It just goes to show that you can't go entirely on what other people say!! We were met by some very helpful staff who made us feel very welcome with an info pack which contained everything we needed to know then were shown to a lovely, close mown pitch. Advised on the best direction to pitch etc. and where the access to the cliff walk and the Pub was. No complaints about the 2 shower blocks we used, actually better than a lot I've used in the past. Plenty of water points, toilet/shower blocks. Nice to see a covered BBQ area. Loads of space around the site. All together a lovely site in exactly the right place for a holiday. Will be back for a longer break next time.
