Near Scarborough, this site is ideal for exploring Yorkshire’s coast and moors.

Our Scarborough Club campsite lies just north of the Victorian seaside resort of the same name and is perfectly located for exploring the North Yorkshire Heritage Coast and the North York Moors National Park.

Scarborough is a large family-friendly campsite with 300 pitches. It is a spacious site with well-placed modern facility blocks. Younger campers are catered for with two play parks and a football pitch and there’s a recreation room too. There’s a small on site chippy, a well stocked shop and a dog exercise field.

From the campsite, it’s an easy walk to the town’s Sea Life and Marine Sanctuary and the North Bay beach along a pleasant cliff-top path. The site is a ten-minute walk from the Cleveland Way National Trail which hugs the North Yorkshire coast and a traffic-free cycle path passes close to the site on the way to Whitby.

West of the campsite North Riding Forest Park (or Dalby Forest as it is also known) has many waymarked trails for walkers and mountain bikers. You can go orienteering here too. Go Ape! Offers tree top adventure with ropes and zip wires or, if you prefer to keep your feet on the ground, enjoy the forest on a Segway.

Head north to Staintondale for the Shire Horse centre. Learn about the North Yorkshire coast at the Ravenscar Coastal Centre. From here it’s a three-mile beach walk to the pretty fishing village of Robin Hood’s Bay. Whitby, ten miles further on, offers the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, Lifeboat Museum and Whitby Abbey. Catch a train to Grosmont, the terminus for the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. This 18-mile heritage line runs across the National Park to Pickering. Jump off at Goathland (or Aidensfield for TVs Heartbeat fans).

Ready Camp is available at this campsite.

We last stayed six years ago and very glad we returned.

We last stayed six years ago and very glad we returned. Very warm welcome with excellent welcome pack (plus bus timetables to be found in the information room) and consulted about our preferences for a pitch and the one selected suited us well. Reasonable field for the dog walk but also easy access to the coastal path - but I wish people would pick up after their dog on the path! Useful to have the carvery next door which does a takeaway or eat in breakfast - we found one takeaway was ample for the two of us. As others have said, the walk in to the North Beach is a good one - go down the road by the side of the Ivanhoe and you reach the cliff top path which then goes down to cross the railway. Worth a ride on the open top bus (1 each way for concessions and 50p for the dogs) as you get a really good view of the birds nesting on the cliffs. If you get off at the Spa, and want a coffee or bite to eat, Farrar's has a large covered verandah, but they also allow dogs inside. The art gallery had pictures of old Scarborough - no dogs inside but there is a small park on the Crescent where I could wait with the dogs. We took the bus back and it was busy on a Friday so I would advise going to the terminus by The Brunswick centre to get on (dogs go free). In contrast on Saturday (in and out) the bus was nearly empty, but that may have been to do with the weather. On the Saturday it rained a lot so we were looking for somewhere inside to eat - 55 Eastborough allow dogs in the foyer dining area and I would recommend the chowder. All in all, despite the rain on Saturday, we had a great time and will certainly return - perhaps in less than six years this time!

What a lovely site!!!! We have a large tent and upon arrival was greeted by friendly staff & shown to our patch, everything was explained and a brief q&a was done. The site was great, we were next to a play area which by day was perfect for our little ones, though if you are planning to put toddlers to bed it was a little noisy, but only until 9! The family wash facilities were a great surprise and as we have 2 toddlers - much appreciated The site was clean, tidy quiet & a great mix of ages. We will be back :)
