Overview

This is a Certificated Site (CS). These select sites are small, privately run campsites that operates under the Club’s jurisdiction and can only accommodate up to 5 caravans or motorhomes and up to 10 trailer tents or tents, unless express permission has been given by the Club to accommodate more. They range from secluded Hideaways to fully facilitated family friendly sites, and are often found in locations where larger commercial sites are prohibited so you could be camping close to a beach or in the National Park, for example.

We are on the edge of Wylam in the beautiful Tyne Valley, surrounded by countryside and yet only twenty minutes by road or rail to the heart of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Wylam, although small in size, has four pubs, two restaurants and a café. It is a very popular local and tourist destination in itself. The River Tyne is within 100 meters of the site and has fishing available. The village has several excellent walks from level to strenuous. The site is located on Hadrians Cycleway Route 72 and is perfectly placed as a centre for cycling holidays due to our rail links to the east and west coasts. Wylam station is only five minutes walk away. Within two miles of Hadrians Wall we are central to a large range of attractions and amenities. From the fabulous North-East coast to the Metro Centre, there is something for everyone within very easy reach.

Cracking Site and so versatile for every need ...

This review is for Stephensons Arms

Cracking Site and so versatile for every need ...from shopping in the city to chilling out on the site. We came out this April for 3 nights and loved it, very basic site facilities, but clean and good enough for any happy Camper. We liked the fact that the site is secluded almost hidden and quiet, but just a few minutes walk away to Newcastle Metro station or a short drive into the City. But that is not it, it is not too far away from the pretty Market town of Hexam, a Cycle and walk path right next to the site, walks along the river Tyne, 4 pubs in walking distance and a shop, welcoming locals and for us a base to explore Hadrians wall. On the site itself we felt very welcome and our dog Sassy enjoyed running around chasing her ball for ages. The site and location seems to fit everyone and is a great allrounder for either the quiet life or a more active break. We will be back :)

A well-cut grassy field with a new access road.

This review is for Stephensons Arms

A well-cut grassy field with a new access road. The owners are friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The field is huge and you can pick your own spot depending on your requirements, e.g. electricity, proximity to services. Wylam is a lovely village with a well-stocked shop, pharmacy, greengrocer, cafes, four pubs, three of which serve food. The Boathouse has 12 real ales on tap and 8 ciders. There is an hourly train service to Newcastle via the Metro Centre. The journey takes about 20 minutes and costs 3.20 for an off-peak return. On this site either just chill or tour the area. Hadrian's Wall is close as is Beamish Museum. Hexham, about 15 minutes drive is well worth a visit. It also has Aldi, Tesco and Waitrose stores. This was our second visit and we will be back.

Excellent location. We had a great visit. Will use again.

Excellent location. We had a great visit. Will use again. We did struggle to find the site entrance. (We should have read the instructions beforehand, perhaps!) When we arrived we had a friendly welcome, with a minimum of formalities and freedom to choose our own stand. We could have had a hook up but decided to go for privacy instead. We had a great position on the grass. Site was quiet and seemed to be used mainly by people traveling through on foot or by bike for just one night. We used the buses to access Newcastle and parts of Hadrian's Wall. Facilities basic but clean, and very reasonable fees. Will recommend to friends and will visit again.

Very convenient site with good access to public transport.

This review is for Stephensons Arms

Very convenient site with good access to public transport. We chose this site because we drive a motorhome and like a site that we can park up and walk or cycle from and has easy access to a good pub and public transport. This site ticks all the boxes. It as a short walk into Wylam where there are 4 pubs, a spar shop and a great bistro. The site is by the side of cycle route 72 which was good for us and we cycled from there to Corbridge which is a lovely place to visit. We also got the train from the village to the metro centre for a spot of shopping and a visit to the cinema which we enjoyed. We'll definitely return to this site.
