Overview

This is a Certificated Site (CS). These select sites are small, privately run campsites that operates under the Club’s jurisdiction and can only accommodate up to 5 caravans or motorhomes and up to 10 trailer tents or tents, unless express permission has been given by the Club to accommodate more. They range from secluded Hideaways to fully facilitated family friendly sites, and are often found in locations where larger commercial sites are prohibited so you could be camping close to a beach or in the National Park, for example.

Brockalee is a family run Certificated Site midway between Newcastle and Carlisle, just south of the Roman Wall. The site is level with good access; we have horses, ponies, donkeys, goats and various breeds of sheep and a cattery. The site is a short walk to a large play park, a village shop, tea room, pub, restaurant, pottery museum, riding stables and local attraction Hadrian’s Wall. Vindolanda and Housteads forts and museums with live excavations. Allen Banks. New opening for spring 2017 is The Sill National Park Discovery Centre, a day out for everybody approx. 3km away. We are on the Coast to Coast cycle route and in the middle of a network of fantastic signed footpaths and the local bus and train service give direct access to Newcastle and Carlisle and the Roman Wall (the bus stop is 150mtrs and the train station is 600mtrs away). Within a short drive are 3 heated open air swimming pools, Kielder Forest and reservoir, Alnwick Castle and Beamish Museum. National Trusts Wallington Hall, Gibside and Cragside House with falconry days with birds of prey and a visitor centre. Other attractions include Kirkhale Lancelot, Capability Browns Lake and Courtyard and Hexham Abbey.

Great site and great location There are only a few sites I would revisit ( too many places to go) but this one is definitely on my list, good clean facilities, well looked after and level site and a great location for getting to Hadrians wall and Vindolanda. Spoke to Jeff the owner, he's a great bloke and likes German Shepherds so we have something in common.....recommended

We were excavating at Vindolanda at this site was within half an hours walk. It is well maintained an the facilities are immaculately clean. There was only one shower and toilet but a second was being built while we were there. The owners are really friendly. The site is close to the main road which makes getting there easy. It is well above the road so there is no noticeable road noise. There are good views over the fells opposite. It's within easy walking distance of the village shop, the pub bus stops and the railway station. We took advantage of all of them. The site is 10 minutes drive from Vindolanda and about 20 minutes drive from all the best bits of the Roman Wall. Hexham is close with good shopping facilities. Newcastle was about 45 minutes on the train. All in all, the site was brilliant for us, the scenery amazing and we saw most of the Roman Wall. If I get on the excavation again next year, we will be returning.

Very well kept site. Excellent facilities.

Very well kept site. Excellent facilities. Visited this site at the end of August for a couple of nights. Well spaced gravel hard standing pitches, all with hook-up. Looked like a newly built toilet/shower block, kept spotless. Good recycling facilities. Very friendly owner. Walking distance from Vindolanda (sturdy boots required apparently, we drove as we were going further on). Road noise could be a bit intrusive, but not too bad. Easy walking into Bardon Mill (once across the A69), and the local pub. Very well located for visiting Hadrian's Wall and the associated attractions (Roman Army Museum, Vindolanda, Housesteads, etc). One to go back to.
