Pitch in a lovely clearing in the forests of Northumberland in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and European Geopark.
Haltwhistle Club campsite’s setting in a clearing in Bellister Wood makes it the ideal get-away-from-it-all camping destination. The wood, once part of the Bellister Castle Estate, is now managed by the National Trust and is a haven for wildlife and you could find yourself sharing your pitch with rabbits and birds, including woodpeckers.
This 50 pitch site betwixt the Northumberland National Park and North Pennines is surrounded by magnificent walking and cycling country. The Haltwhistle Rings – a series of 22 local walks is one way to take in the local scenery. Hadrian’s Wall, five miles from the campsite, offers walking opportunities along with Kielder Water and Forest Park which has a 27-mile track around the shore of the lake. Water sport lovers can sail, canoe and water ski here too.
Back at Haltwhistle campsite, the adjacent River Tyne provides fishing for those with the appropriate rod licence.
After a day cycling or walking or enjoying some of the area’s many attractions our secluded campsite among the trees is a peaceful oasis to relax and unwind. The modern facilities include showers and toilets, a laundry and washing up area. If you need to re-fuel, the Wallace Arms is in walking distance.

Advised approach from A69 is narrow in places and final approach is more or less single track. Fortunately it is not a busy road. Otherwise a perfect site.

We had a good view over the river and it was a very peaceful spot.
We only visited in passing through the area as we wanted to see Hadrian's Wall.
Well located for that. A very interesting area.

I booked a two night stay with the CCC online booking site to make use of the 20% club discount. I had a tent 5x5, myself and my dog. The booking site said hard standing only so use steel pegs, of which have. I booked the two nights & said I would arrive 12.00. I did not expect that I would need an electric jack hammer to get the steel pegs into the hard standing ground, to hold down the legs of my tent and the sides. After 45 mins of hard work the site warden appeared to say he would be happy for the guy lines to go into the grass. I asked about a grass pitch. He said it was all about grass management this time of the year. However, fantastic location to visit the wall; good dog walking along the river; the pub good food & dog friendly. I feel this Club site could do a lot better re customer service towards it's tenting members, after all it is a Camping and Caravanning Club site - 'the friendly club'?
