Overview

You will find a real taste of the Scottish Highlands in this area of castles, distilleries and beautiful scenery.

Walks, wildlife and whisky are all in abundance in the area surrounding our beautiful Speyside Club campsite. The campsite enjoys a rural position between the fabulous Moray coast and the Cairngorms Mountain range. Set on a gentle south-facing slope and surrounded by trees, Speyside campsite will appeal to those looking for a peaceful and relaxing base for their exploration of the area.

Views extend over the surrounding countryside and trees and hedges dot the site giving some areas a more secluded feel. Facilities include a laundry, children’s play area and a dog walk.

If you enjoy a wee dram of Scotland’s famous tipple, you’re in luck. The area surrounding the campsite boasts some 50 whisky distilleries, including the world-famous Macallan Distillery. Most offer tours and there are whisky festivals in May and September.

For walkers, the 84-mile Speyside Way connects the moray coast with the Grampian mountains and passes close to the campsite.

As well as being handy for the coast of Moray Firth, Elgin, Buckie, Forres, Nairn, Fochabers and Spey bay are all within easy reach. At Spey Bay you’ll find the Scottish Dolphin Centre where you can enjoy dolphin spotting or take a walk along the mouth of the River Spey.

Eat Local

A medium sized site, well laid out, with very spacious pitches, a combination of grassed and tree areas. All immaculately kept. The toilet/ shower block is spacious with lot's of hot water and very clean. A very peaceful site. Ideal for visiting Whisky distilleries. And lots of NT Castles too. The only downside was. We visited for 3rd week in May and recorded temperatures of 4 degrees during the day. Can you crank up the temperature Kenny please lol.

This is a site we visit often as it is only about an hour from home. The site is quiet, peaceful and extremely well kept by the two wardens. Both of them are very welcoming and do a superb job with what appears to be poor resources from the club. The facility block, which was once used for prisoners of war is in need of an update. In particular the showers which, although hot are not nearly powerful enough. The wardens, however, cannot be praised enough as the planting and general upkeep of the site is excellent. They seem to be doing more than you would expect from wardens as they were repairing paths and laying hard core for hardstanding pitches whilst we were there. Surely the club should bring in contractors for this sort of thing and not rely on wardens, who might not have the required expertise. The local area provides much to do and see as it is near to Dufftown and Aberlour which are whisky towns of renoun. Also within driving distance of the Cairngorms and many other famous Scottish attractions and castles. Overall, I would certainly recommend this site despite the lack of care from the club.

Although the site is situated approximately 5 miles from Aberlour, and further from some of the distilleries I would have liked to visit, I would recommend to anyone, but a car or motorcycle would be of benefit as my first visit in 2014 I had my daughters dog with me and only stayed for 4 nights, this time for 7, but with a bicycle and no dog, I did find it tough going getting to some places, but then I had not been on a bicycle for a number of years, having said that i do intend to go back again in the future. A well run site and the staff are a credit to the club.

It's a 2-2.5 mile walk to Aberlour and about 1.5 to Archiestown from the site if you're going out in the evening. You have to walk along a road without pavement, so torch and hi-viz would be sensible on the darker evenings. Lots of walks around the area. Enjoy!
