Lovely peaceful stay, super-friendly wardens (Gordon and Jean), basic but great facilities We booked to go here as a first time trial of camping (with young children) further from home (we live in Kent). It was close to where an old school friend of mine lives and we were looking for somewhere which allowed larger tents (we have a Berghaus Air 8 plus a porch), had electric hookup and had basic - but more than adequate - facilities (namely toilet and washing up facilities). This fitted the bill perfectly. When I phoned to book, Gordon was friendly and informative. The cost of pitch plus hookup was 10/night - brilliant price! The location of the site is basically the village playing fields, just off the A1 (M) southbound carriageway. The toilets/washing up facilities are in the clubhouse (which we were given access to day and night). It is secluded enough and right next to a beautiful church. Despite being right near the A1 (M), it was peaceful. The sports field was clean and I was happy to let the kids run around on it (without worry about them treading in dog mess). Gordon and Jean were/are wonderful. Really friendly and welcoming. Nothing seems like too much trouble to them and they were eager to help and suggest places to go/see. They even provided a couple of footballs for the children to use. They'd check in on us and make sure we were ok and didn't need anything. Despite the weather, we had a lovely and relaxing time here. It's an excellent base to go visit other places (lots of NT places!), or if you just to chill on the campsite. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this beautiful place and would be more than happy to stay here again.

Very handy stop off for long trips - right next to the A1. Very helpful and friendly owner. Open site with brilliant dog walking. Recommend this site as a stop off for long journeys north south or vice versa. Calm and peaceful even though right next to A1. Helpful owner met me to show me the way - tricky for your first visit. Facilities functional. Watch out for young footballers depending on what day of the week and time of day you're there. Excellent dog walk in woods directly from the site. Will return when passing. Thank you.

Surprisingly peaceful, being so close to the A1.

This review is for Adjacent to A1 S Bound

Surprisingly peaceful, being so close to the A1. A bit of a slope on the hard standing so we went down on the field. Soft when wet but our Quattro' 4wd got us back out OK. Gordon Taylor met us at the Harvest garage on northbound A1 and we then followed his car so that we wouldn't miss the turning to get over onto the southbound lane as the site can only be accessed from that direction. Fairly basic (clean) sanitation arrangements, but I gather that the parish council is hoping to improve these in the not too distant future. Beside ancient parish church with an interesting wind vane, ask Gordon about it! All in all pleasant for an overnight stop, but handy for local points of interest if you want to stay longer.
