Lovely rural retreat but close to many amenities.

Lovely rural retreat but close to many amenities. Just spent 2 nights at this lovely campsite. The site is no more than 10 minutes from our house but once pitched up we felt we could have been miles away. Sometimes its just nice to sit back and appreciate what you have in your own backyard :-) We were pitched on one of 3 hard standings at the top of the site near the barns and the views were terrific. The pitches also benefit from being drive through so getting setup was a doddle albeit on a bit of a downward slope. There are 2 more hard standings towards the bottom of the slope (not drive through) plus a small childrens play area. Toilets are in the same building as the on site gym and these were spotless. A bit of a walk to the chemical disposal but not too bad. Jumbles Reservoir is a short walk away and ideal for dog walking. Plenty of good pubs and restaurants close by. We will definitely return.

Friendly welcome then shown to our pitch. This was hard standing.

Friendly welcome then shown to our pitch. This was hard standing. The hardstanding pitches are long and narrow so with a caravan I assume the car is intended to be left in front of the caravan rather than by the side as normal. Not a problem but a little unconventional. An awning would need to be pitched on the grass by the side. Water tap is easy to get close to with a motorhome. You could also drain waste water directly from the tank into a drain but it's not a full service point and you will need a drain hose. Toilets were open all night but a little bit of a track from the site round the farm buildings. They were clean. Only problem is the timer for the lights can go off while you are in them so take a torch at night. They are shared with a gym and I was a little surprised that they had not added a shower as well. Good mobile and TV reception. There is a pleasant short walk round the jumbles reservoir from the site and the local area has many other more strenuous walks over the local moors. It's also close to Bury and the East Lancs steam railway among other attractions.
