Overview

Camp at our secluded site in Kent, the Garden of England.

Our Oldbury Hill Club campsite is located in an idyllic spot within Styants Wood, opposite the Iron Age fort of the same name in Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The area is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is a lovely open, all grass campsite. Pitches are sloping so chocks will be required.

The area is ideal for walkers. Two way-marked circular walks pass over Oldbury Camp, the large Iron Age Hill fort. The hill is now covered with woodland managed by the National Trust. You can also walk from the campsite to Ightham Mote, a medieval moated manor house with a 14-acre garden and restaurant.

It’s a short car journey to Knole, a National Trust run English country house set in a deer park; Penshurst Palace and Gardens; the National Trust run Chartwell, family home of Winston Churchill; the beautiful Emmetts Garden and Hever Castle and Gardens.

You can also visit London by train from Borough Green and Sevenoaks stations.

The site is sloping and we had great fun trying to get level but nothing that a couple of bricks and blocks of wood couldn't cure. The site is on the side of a wooded valley and accessed by a narrow road with passing places. The facilities are clean and acceptable but we found them rather cold due to having a plastic roof. The Wardens were very friendly and were very helpful. We had a great day at Leeds Castle but thought it rather expensive at 24 each (21 for concession) but the ticket does allow 12 months access. Nice if you live nearby but rather expensive if you are just visiting the area. Would definitely use the site again if we return to Kent.

Had 5 nice nights on this site but I would bring extra blocks to help with the steepness of the pitches. The shower blocks are nice and clean but could do with some heating and privacy cubicles if you want to wash in private (in mens ). Both of the site wardens are very polite and friendly and they escorted you to your pitch and left you alone to enjoy your holiday. The site is very useful if you like to visit national trust properties as there is a few in the area as well as Hever castle and Penshurst place. there is also a few nice pubs around which do lovely meals and about 10 minute walk from the site is a lovely butchers that sells very nice meat .

The site is situated amongst some fine walking countryside - lots of walks in many directions. You can walk to Ightam Mote within an hour and Knole in about the same time. The facilities were good with hot showers, although I thought the shower blocks could do with the leaves removed from the roofs (made the blocks dark).
