Overview

Camp at our secluded site in Kent, the Garden of England.

Our Oldbury Hill Club campsite is located in an idyllic spot within Styants Wood, opposite the Iron Age fort of the same name in Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The area is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is a lovely open, all grass campsite. Pitches are sloping so chocks will be required.

The area is ideal for walkers. Two way-marked circular walks pass over Oldbury Camp, the large Iron Age Hill fort. The hill is now covered with woodland managed by the National Trust. You can also walk from the campsite to Ightham Mote, a medieval moated manor house with a 14-acre garden and restaurant.

It’s a short car journey to Knole, a National Trust run English country house set in a deer park; Penshurst Palace and Gardens; the National Trust run Chartwell, family home of Winston Churchill; the beautiful Emmetts Garden and Hever Castle and Gardens.

You can also visit London by train from Borough Green and Sevenoaks stations.

As the site is slopping it is necessary to have chocks and although we had some with us they were not high enough but the camp staff came to the rescue with extra high chocks which was supplied free and was apparent this service was offered to members on a regular basis. The campsite is well run and very clean with always plenty of hot water, the pitches are well spaced but not over large the site is tucked away in a National Trust forest and is quiet location. We found the site very convenient for visiting National Trust places of which there are plenty. Would use this site again without hesitation. On the negative side the campsite need more showers as there was only two for the male washrooms and although the site was not full there was always a queue in the mornings apart from that would recommend this site.

Very peaceful, lovely views over woodland, great for dogs as you just go over the road and into Oldbury woods. Warden was very helpful and made sure we had a pitch on the firmest ground since our motorhome bogs down easily. Facilities are very clean - ok the roofs are just corrugated plastic but I rather liked seeing the sky through them. Suspect that in wet weather the steps up to the facilities could be treacherous and for that reason plus fact of quite a lot of steps would not recommend for folk with walking or balance difficulties. Make sure you take the shortest route from the main road as it is narrow even for a motorhome and suspect towing could be tricky if you met something.

This is a lovely site with welcoming wardens.

This review is for Oldbury Hill

This is a lovely site with welcoming wardens. It is in a clearing in an ancient woodland near the site of an Iron Age hill fort so there are plenty of walks directly from the site. The site itself is peaceful with only the sound of birdsong. The facilities are spotless and clean with two blocks for men and two blocks for women plus dishwash, laundry etc If you are a NT member, there are many places to visit. Ightham Mote is a 2 mile walk from the site and Chartwell, Quebec House and other NT sites are a short car ride away. We will be back!
