Overview

Camp at our secluded site in Kent, the Garden of England.

Our Oldbury Hill Club campsite is located in an idyllic spot within Styants Wood, opposite the Iron Age fort of the same name in Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The area is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is a lovely open, all grass campsite. Pitches are sloping but our friendly Holiday Site Managers provide chocks as required.

The area is ideal for walkers. Two way-marked circular walks pass over Oldbury Camp, the large Iron Age Hill fort. The hill is now covered with woodland managed by the National Trust. You can also walk from the campsite to Ightham Mote, a medieval moated manor house with a 14-acre garden and restaurant.

It’s a short car journey to Knole, a National Trust run English country house set in a deer park; Penshurst Palace and Gardens; the National Trust run Chartwell, family home of Winston Churchill; the beautiful Emmetts Garden and Hever Castle and Gardens.

You can also visit London by train from Borough Green and Sevenoaks stations.

We were looking forward to a nice camping weekend with friends, and booked pitches next to each other but on arrival we were told that we had not informed them of such, despite paying both deposits in the same phone call (This was sorted out but we were made to feel like it took some effort on their part and an inconvenience). The facilities were a disappointment there are only two ladies showers and the toilets often seemed to be blocked. Be aware also that the toilets, washing facilities AND dishwashing area all close from 10:30am - 12pm every day. The areas do need to be cleaned daily but surely it could be done either later in the day or area by area not all closed off for the duration. A bit harsh when you might want a lay in and you need to vacate by 12pm as you will have to take your dirty self and dirty plates home with you. Oh and it is a very strict lights out/ No noise policy at 23:00, we were told off at 23:03 even though we apologised and pointed out we were unaware of the time... We felt it was not the most welcoming of sites and hopefully not an indication of how other camping and caravanning club sites are like. Definitely not as nice as the other non club sites we have stayed at so far.

This was our fourth visit to the Oldbury Hill site.

This was our fourth visit to the Oldbury Hill site. It is a lovely site and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The toilet and shower block needs an upgrade and modernised. The need to upgrade these facilities has not put us off returning over the years.

Second visit to this lovely site.

This review is for Oldbury Hill

Second visit to this lovely site. Warmly welcomed and shown to our pitch after discussing what one would be most suitable for us. This campsite does have a hill and therefore you need to bear this in mind; you may be pitched at the bottom, which catches the afternoon sun, but the toilet block is at the top. The toilets and showers were always kept clean and well stocked of paper but are aged. The roof is the downside to this building and does give it a older look. The shower press is low so bear this in mind if you are washing your hair. What I do love about these facilities is that they are tucked away in the trees so they are not visible for all to see...great touch considering you are pitching in a wooded area. There is plenty to do in the area and we would definitely recommend a trip to Leeds castle. The pub at the end of the track, just off the main road is a bit hit and miss, last time we went we had lovely food and great service this time however, it left a lot to be desired.
