Overview

A great campsite to explore Canterbury, with a bus stop outside the site entrance.

City, coast and countryside – you can take your pick if you’re basing yourself at our Canterbury Club campsite. Although a popular stopover for those travelling to or from France, this campsite offers the ideal base for exploring Kent’s coast and country.

The campsite lies a couple of miles south of the city – within walking distance (or hire a bike on site). The not so energetic can catch a bus from outside the campsite. The well laid out campsite offers a mix of level grass and hardstand pitches. There are newly refurbished toilet and shower facilities, a washing up area, children’s play area and good dog walking.

Off site Canterbury is a city packed with history, heritage and culture. It has a stunning cathedral and the ruins of St Augustine’s Abbey and St Martin’s Church and castle. It also has an eclectic mix of specialist shops, independent retailers, bars and restaurants.

Head to the coast for Whitstable with its trendy harbour and July Oyster Festival. The more traditional Herne-Bay has two miles of seafront adorned with colourful beach huts and a pier. The quaint Victorian town of Broadstairs with its Punch and Judy shows and donkey rides is a contrast to the more cosmopolitan habour side Ramsgate noted for its pavement cafes and waterside bars.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

Bus stop very close to site entrance.

Bus stop very close to site entrance. Family explorer tickets great value for getting around, even for couples. If you don't fancy cooking there are several take aways that will deliver to site. Canterbury is within walking distance, about mile and a half. Site very clean and very well maintained

Helpful friendly wardens made our arrival easy giving us a choice of hardstanding plots. The site is clearly extremely well cared for and the wardens work hard to keep it nice. It's good the club has invested in creating plenty of hardstandings which were well spaced. The sanitary blocks were the best we have come across. At last a site with enough showers so there were no queues. The shower cubicles had plenty of hooks, so often lacking on other sites and fold down seats fixed to the wall. There are plenty of not-so-young club members like us who find a seat really helpful but lots of sites don't recognise this. The bus stop is just outside with a very regular bus service into Canterbury (every 20 minutes weekdays when we were there). Visiting the city is a major attraction and the wardens provided useful information. The cathedral is a must. We also went to Howletts Wild Animal Park near the other end of Bekesbourne Lane. Well worth a visit especially for the monkeys and gorillas for kids and adults. It's a short drive but we chose to catch the bus outside the site to Littlebourne, opposite direction to Canterbury. By getting off at Jubilee Road stop, we were able to walk through a footpath called School Path to Bekesbourne Lane and then a short distance on the road about a 10 minute walk to the park. We highly recommend the Canterbury site and will definitely be back to see more of the city and its surrounds.

Had four nights with our small caravan and 3 small spaniel.

Had four nights with our small caravan and 3 small spaniel. The welcome was probably the best we've had, friendly and efficient. We had requested a pitch away from the main area to lessen the excitement (and noise!) from our dogs, and they were the first site that acknowledged the request and acted on it, so we were in the large field at the rear, surrounded on two sides by woodland and a few yards from the excellent dog walk (well provisioned with dog bins). The site was quite busy with caravans, campervans and a few tents but was quiet and peaceful. We didn't have to queue at all for the showers which were always clean and faced the right way so you didn't get jetted with cold water when you first pressed the button! Easy 20 minute (not very pleasant) road walk into Canterbury and only about 15 miles to various coastal resorts including the olde worlde Sandwich (highly recommended). No real downsides although if full would be very busy, and the single bin and recycling compound is right by the entrance (a fair way from our field!) In summary, a great site, highly recommended and hopefully will return.

The site is easy to find, well laid out with good sized toilet/shower facilities which are clean and well maintained. There is also a large family room which we found useful. The play park is much larger than most on C&C sites. My only complaint about the park is, maybe there should be a time when it should not be used at night as it was very nosey most nights pass 8 pm and makes getting younger children to sleep difficult. Staff were very welcoming on arrival and liked being offered maps of the city etc. Would recommend a visit to the Anchor Inn, 5 minutes drive away and 20% discount on food for those staying on site.
