Overview

A great campsite to explore Canterbury, with a bus stop outside the site entrance.

City, coast and countryside – you can take your pick if you’re basing yourself at our Canterbury Club campsite. Although a popular stopover for those travelling to or from France, this campsite offers the ideal base for exploring Kent’s coast and country.

The campsite lies a couple of miles south of the city – within walking distance (or hire a bike on site). The not so energetic can catch a bus from outside the campsite. The well laid out campsite offers a mix of level grass and hardstand pitches. There are newly refurbished toilet and shower facilities, a washing up area, children’s play area and good dog walking.

Off site Canterbury is a city packed with history, heritage and culture. It has a stunning cathedral and the ruins of St Augustine’s Abbey and St Martin’s Church and castle. It also has an eclectic mix of specialist shops, independent retailers, bars and restaurants.

Head to the coast for Whitstable with its trendy harbour and July Oyster Festival. The more traditional Herne-Bay has two miles of seafront adorned with colourful beach huts and a pier. The quaint Victorian town of Broadstairs with its Punch and Judy shows and donkey rides is a contrast to the more cosmopolitan habour side Ramsgate noted for its pavement cafes and waterside bars.

Very clean and well organised. Motorhome service point with well placed drain was welcome. Access to the Crab and Winkle Way was difficult, not well marked and with some busy roads.

Pleasant site, trees, wildlife, family atmosphere.

Pleasant site, trees, wildlife, family atmosphere. We had stated when booking we had a caravan and day tent but there was no room on the original hardstanding pitch offered to us on arrival for the tent to go up. A staff member kindly found us an alternative grass pitch that took both. We were told on arrival that there was a group of 80 children staying and imagined younger ones, perhaps scouts or something. Unfortunately it was a group of teenagers who did excessively loud organised activities until 11 pm nightly, often involving chanting or singing, everyone screaming and running about etc. They were a bit rowdy round the shower block and looked over the door at my son washing. We weren't holidaying, we were spending a week there whilst working on our house prior to moving out, so did not bother complaining. It would have spoiled a vacation and I think one should be warned before booking about extremely large noisy groups attending. Certainly loud organised activities should stop MUCH earlier as people may want to sleep. Otherwise I would recommend this site and staff.

First impressions of the site where very good, facilities where very clean and the site very well maintained. We loved visiting Canterbury and can recommend the Punting, we also visited Broadstairs which was lovely (watch out for the seagulls!). Unfortunately our stay on the site was let down by that large school group also staying there. (The Mrs and our 2 and 4 year had to endure loud noise till gone 11pm at night, loud music waking us up at 06.20am and plenty of foul language at all hours, after the first night we ended up spending as much time off site as possible). It would have been nice to been advised of the school visit during booking or at the very least when we arrived on site so we could have asked not to be pitched so close to them. (They we're all offsite when we arrived). As we were leaving we were asked by the staff about our stay, so we told them we were unhappy, there was no apology, we were just told they often have large groups at this site and when they have groups of adults they are worse!! Based on the last bit of advice from the staff we won't be returning.
