welcomed with a smile and a lengthy list of things we were not allowed to do, mostly reasonable. Very hostile and suspicious to young people. Although not listed on the lengthy list of must nots, any kind of ball game in the broad open spaces was stamped on. There was a big area of public grass land with one staff caravan on the corner, the moment a ball appeared within 100m of this, the official was out to say no ball games were allowed anywhere on site or, as it transpired, off the site but within sight of the staff. beautiful area, great walks, good toilets and showers, lovely trees. don't take any teenaged boys -they will be watched like hawks!

Just came back from 3 days camping (tent) at Ashurst with my boyfriend. The camp manager gave us a warm and friendly greeting and the check-in was quick and smooth. You can choose where to pitch your tent, only rule is 6m away from other campers. Despite the bank holiday & half term we didn't have any problems in finding a suitably flat & quiet spot on the grass, right opposite the forest. We went for walks into the forest out into open fields and saw wild horses roaming about. The scenery it's breathtakingly beautiful. A few horses visited the camp mornings & evenings. We found the facilities always clean despite the many families with children. Showers were hot. Staff always friendly and cheerful. We found the camp was quiet at night time and also during the day. There is a lovely big pub with a sunny beer garden 5 minutes walk through a field near the main entrance. Ashurst Village is only 5min walk and Lyndhurst village is 5 minutes drive away and there you have Budgens, pubs & restaurants, a Camping Shop and the best Ice Cream shop I've come across in a while. The camp is about 15 minutes drive to Beaulieu & its Motor Museum, which was worth a visit. The scenic drive to Beaulieu (open fields & heath grass) is truly majestic. Great experience. Would recommend.

We stayed here last June for the Classic Mini Show at Beaulieu Motor Museum. Lovely site with good facilities and would recommend it to anyone wanting to explore the New Forest. You'll be within 5 minutes walk of Ashurst Village which has all your needs, groceries, takeaways, pubs and more. The people running it in 2012 were very friendly and helpful, they recommended the best places to eat and get supplies and were always cheery when we bumped into them. Two things to look out for though, we were at the top of the site but some of the pitches flooded ( ours included ) and the dreaded squirrels! They ate anything that isn't put away. I'm booking again for a week again this year and am sure to have a great time again. I would certainly recommend this site. Peter

This is the 7th time we have stayed at Ashurst, either as a couple or with our young family.

This is the 7th time we have stayed at Ashurst, either as a couple or with our young family. Once again we had a fabulous time. The children were able to enjoy the field to the left of the campsite and made many new friends. There are excellent cycle routes around the site, most of which are suitable even when towing children. The campsite staff were all friendly and helpful. We visited Lepe Country Park, Hurst Castle and Calshot, all which I would recommend to families. The Happy Cheese had a great food deal and the service was excellent. The only problem we had in 2 weeks was with the rowdy group who stayed 1 night and had no consideration for families already on site. We will be returning next year.
