This review is for Beddgelert - Snowdonia

When we arrived at Beddgelert the river running under the bridge lovely hearing the water seeing the trees all around it looked so peaceful, We arrived at reception there was a note on the door saying they were at lunch 1 hour it didn't say when from or two just take a map & find a pitch if you have booked, We have a motorhome driving round the site was not to clever as thier were potholes in roads & the sides of the roads were churned up where cars/vans had tryed to get off thier pitches. We found a pitch which was supposed to be hard standing the part the motorhome parked on was but the muddy incline to get to the van was not so good. The pitches were not very big, on the next pitch to us the back of there motorhome over hung the pitch with a drop behind it. Toilet & shower blocks were good but unfortunatly the road conditions made the floors very dirty & slippery. This forrest site is in a perfect part of Snowdonia the trees little streams make Beddgelert an ideal peaceful place . At the top of the site is a station a train stops going to Canarvon or Portmadog it was a lovely ride. We walked to the village in the evening for a meal (very good) about a mile. We wouldn't have booked this forrest site as walking around the site for us was hard in day light when we got back in the dark it was harder to miss the pot holes ful of water. The children were loveing it playing in the streams and play park, We like to walk ride our bikes but the we found it difficult on the site roads I would like to see more maintainance on the road ways on this site fill in the potholes and gravel site would be easier on people moving around plus the toilet/shower room floors would be cleaner without the mud. we did enjoy our time at Beggdelert.

We stopped here for a couple of days to rest as part of a month long trip. The location is great and there are local walks and attractions (such as the train). The staff were great, helpful and friendly. The small shop on site is a real bonus. You will need your levelers if you are in a motorhome but the pitches amongst the trees are well spaced and have EHU. It was nice to be able to site and watch the wildlife (rabbits, squirrels, birds) around our MH. The facilities were all clean and the water hot. The site is starting to look a bit tired though as has been said and will probably need a bit of investment in the future. However it is in woodland and nature is not tidy. We enjoyed a couple of local walks and were not bothered by the lack of mobile or satellite reception. In fact it is nice to be 'out of range' for a while. We will definitely go back again and take our grandchildren.

Fantastically situated with beautiful walks from the site to local villages and amenities. Very easy going - we didn't see any wardens about and you were sent off to find a pitch yourself which was fine. We had the steam train running behind us which was very interesting but is very expensive to travel on. No phone signal or wifi but phone boxes on site. Wonderfully situated for all of North Wales, Snowdon and Angelsey. Horse riding nearby was 22 ph. Zip world velocity although expensive (60) was one of the best things I've ever done. Beaches at Angelsey very good. Weather poor but what do you expect in Wales? Lovely shops and pubs in Beddgelert inc a craft shop, Post Office and good Deli. One criticism - code needed for toilets and showers. Why when so isolated? Was a pain when you needed access but had forgot code! Good point - Danish pastries from shop were excellent! Would thoroughly recommend.

I have been coming here for more than 40 years, first as a child with my parents and now with my own family. I still love it, the location is great and Beddgelert is timeless. I remember walking along the disused railway line as a kid and today it has a fully restored steam line - fantastic. Unfortunately, in all that time little has been done to maintain the facilities and they are now looking really quite tired. It's expensive too and given it's cost & popularity they really should be spending some of this revenue on facility upgrades. Don't get me wrong, the facilities work (albeit one morning's cold shower was a bit of a shock), but given how much we paid they don't measure up to other C&CC sites anymore. This is a shame because I still love it and probably always will, but put some funds back in please and help it get back to the top of my list.
