    Top site for fishing

On-site fishing available and the Cotswolds within easy driving distance.

You’ll find our pretty Winchcombe Club campsite in the heart of the Cotswolds. Its location near the village of Alderton makes this campsite the perfect base for exploring the area’s pretty honey-colour limestone towns and villages. It’s great walking country too. ¬For starters there’s the Winchcombe way. This 42-mile, figure-of-eight trail runs adjacent to the campsite.

Winchcombe is a charming, quiet little site with beautiful views over the surrounding countryside. The focal point of the site is its carp pool – attractive not only to fishermen but an abundance of friendly birdlife too. Bag yourself a pool-side pitch and enjoy a prime fishing spot.

The site has excellent toilet and shower facilities, a games room and dog walk. And the site shop stocks a variety of local produce from nearby farms, dairies, butchers and bakers.

The attractive town of Winchcombe is a short drive from the site. It has Walkers are Welcome status and a tempting variety of top restaurants, pubs and tea shops. Further afield Cheltenham with its elegant Regency houses, award-wining gardens and stylish shops is worth visiting.

Self-catering accommodation is available at this campsite.

We had a fabulous weekend at Winchcombe Club Site. Not long enough to take in all the local area has to offer, so we're already planning to go back. There are limited grass pitches with electric, so need to book ahead for these. We were told it was a busy weekend, with all but one pitches booked, yet it was one of the most peaceful sites we have visited. Lots of space between pitches, we were at the road end of the site, which we barely noticed. The lake is picturesque and clearly a draw for fishing aficionados. The ducks wandering around pitches seeking tidbits were a delight. Showers were hot and clean and we found them a good size. The only thing we'd change is to include some breakfast options in the local bakery provision. Bread was OK, but croissant or pastries was what we had hoped for. Lovely to be able to order a newspaper for the morning. Steam train at Toddington, just 5 minutes drive away is a must-see. Fab and affordable food at the Flag and Whistle cafe at Toddington Station.

Winchcombe is a lovely Cotswold small Town and only a short drive or good walk from the site, Toddington has a great Steam Railway which goes to Cheltenham Racecourse and has tea rooms and a garden centre well worth a visit. Cotswold lavender farm Tewkesbury, Evesham Cheltenham are just a few names all within easy travelling distance. There are many footpaths to keep ramblers happy. Tewkesbury is a dog friendly place including the Abbey. Good carp fishing is to be had on site, make sure you have your rod licence. Managers and grounds staff are very helpful and we have no hesitation to recommend this site and know why people return again and again. If you are looking for a quiet, friendly site to relax on site or go touring Winchcombe should suit you. We were disappointed only to see that there are still some people who do not seem to respect the hard work the wardens put in to keeping the site immaculate, even flowers in the toilet block, by not cleaning up their own mess, from leaving washing up sinks with their grease and discarded food left for others, also the few that despite there being ample dog poop bins at the entrance/exit to the ppublic footpath to the dog field and in various places round the lakes seem to lazy or uncaring to pick up their dogs mess and put it in the bin. The dog field has good cut out paths where it is easy to see your dogs do their deposits, to allow them to go into the mowing grass to poop is not fair on the farmer who cuts and bales that crop for haylage. There is no need for it thankfully it seems to be a minority who are inconsiderate, and definitely not a site problem. Love Whinchcombe and will hopefully be back again soon.
