A secluded campsite in rural Essex, near both the coast and the city.
Our pretty Kelvedon Hatch Club campsite in the heart of leafy Essex serves those campers seeking the excitement and attractions of the capital as well as those looking for a relaxing break on the Essex coast.
This 90-pitch campsite is secluded and peaceful and has a really rural feel. All forms of camping is catered for here with a range of facilities including a parent and child room, children’s play area and an excellent dog walk.
The pretty village of Kelvedon Hatch – best known for its once-secret nuclear bunker, now a museum, is close by. Also close is Brentwood, with Mountnessing Windmill – a restored, working post mill – and Old MacDonald’s Farm, a leisure park aimed at children. You can also catch a train from the town to London – buses to the station stop half a mile from site with trains leaving every 10 minutes to the city.
For some beach action, head to Southend. Three Shells, the town’s most central beach, offers easy access to Adventure Island, the Pier and numerous shops, cafes and amusements. Also try the Blue Flag, dog-friendly Canvey Island Beach in the Thames Estuary and the Blue Flag Sandy Shoebury East and Shoeburyness Beaches.

Kelvedon hatch is in a beautiful rural location with the town of Brentwood only a twenty minute drive.
It's peacefulness draws you back and excellent facilities make it a regular stop over for me.
The flowers and hanging baskets around the outside of the office are picturesque of post card quality and the welcome and cleanliness of the site show such care and attention to detail from the staff.
The access roads are quite well maintained and electric hook-ups are available on most pitches, the lawns are a pleasure to walk bare foot on and service points and bins are regularly checked.
Toilet block looks like it has only recently been built, good hot showers, toilets, privy washbasins and free hair dryers are excellent, laundrette and dishwashing facilities again spotless and well maintained. All in all highly recommend this site for its friendliness and cleanliness. And lovely welcoming staff.
See you soon
Such a shame that it is not open all year round

I have never written a review before, but this time I feel it necessary to say thank you for a lovely stay at this site. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome by very friendly site wardens. We were shown to a lovely secluded pitch as requested and shown the brand new and smartest facilities block we have ever used... even a hand basin in the CDP... a nice and needed touch that all sites should have. Site rules were enforced in a diplomatic manner and without causing offence when asking me to use a waste container instead of piping to the hedge, which gave the impression that even during busy periods the site would be a lovely place for a peaceful, trouble free stay. Perfect for our needs to visit the local town of Basildon and close to the seaside resort of Southend. In a moment of downtime the trip to the secret nuclear bunker was very interesting. Thanks again and we will be back if you will have us

Eagle pub on main road very nice food. Southend seafront worth a visit on a sunny day. Enjoyed stay but it can get fairly noisy due to aircraft from/to Stansted flying overhead from an early hour.

My second visit to this site this year, 1st stay was fine (6 days) but 2nd stay (4 nights) was not as pleasant and I was glad to get home.
Good Points: site amenities are normally kept clean (but not when kids are there, as they made them dirty). Friendly helpful staff when entering the site, a nice remote area with high trees to cut off winds. Good pitch sizes for car and caravan/tent/camper vans. Easy access to water tap/bins/waste water. Shop sells a few emergency bits that you might have forgotten to pack but not much food for sale. You wouldn't think you were so near to a town as large as Brentwood, more like youre in the middle of the countryside. Good pegging down on grass, never found many stones to hit with pegs.
Bad Points: Narrow lanes to drive down to get to site, Site can get busy on school holidays and a bit noisy. People not picking up after their dogs (mainly an elderly man with 2 setters and possibly a chocolate Labrador), large loose doggie doo's left on pathways, some dogs were off leads owned by irresponsible campers and not checked by site managers, ball games on the site grass instead of the designated park area (football hitting my awning), BBQ's too near tents with high flames (using liquid lightning to start BBQ), noisy after 10pm with music.
Id like to see site managers more on-hand to check rules being adhered too. Spoilt my stay this time.
