Overview

Explore the villages, towns and coast of the south east from this campsite.

Our Crowborough Club campsite lies in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Ashdown Forest, the setting for A.A.Milnes wonderful Winnie the Pooh books is on the doorstep. London is around 35 miles to the north and the historic spa town of Tunbridge Wells seven miles north west. While the coastal towns of Eastbourne, Brighton and Hastings are around 20 miles away.

The campsite is well laid out. Trees and hedges divide the site giving a more secluded feel in some areas and some sheltered pitches for tent campers. A good range of on-site facilities are available including toilet and showers, a laundry, disabled facilities and a recreation room.

Woodland walks can be enjoyed direct from the campsite and the neighbouring park and leisure centre and swimming pool provide convenient entertainment for younger family members.

Crowborough town is a ten-minute walk from the campsite and offers shops and a good range of places to eat. Visit Tunbridge Wells for its elegant architecture and the Pantiles – a colonnaded walkway where you can browse, shop, eat and stroll.

For family days out visit Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest, Chiddingstone Caste, The Mill Toy and Pedal Car Museum and The Kent and East Sussex Railway. Biddenden is just one of many Vineyards in the area.

We found the site managers very helpful & friendly, and they were great in helping us with a good pitch. Great location for visiting Hever, Brighton, Eastbourne and loved having the leisure centre next to the site as we used the pool a lot. Only downside to the site was the toilet & shower facilities as these were very dated and there were only 2 showers so it was sometimes a wait. It would put me off coming back to the site in high season as although there is another block open at peak times this would still be inadequate. Also there were no washing cubicles available only an open row of sinks. But we would come back off peak as we really like the site itself.

Although we couldn't fault the cleanliness of the toilets I would have liked to have more room in the shower to get dressed without worrying about getting clothes wet. (not one for walking around in dressing gown). Leisure center was next door but staff didn't seem aware of the discount offered with receipt for our stay. Also need to check times of swimming as quite limiting unless you get up at the crack of dawn. Bus stop outside to Tunbridge Wells and Brighton, which is quite a way but no hassle of parking when you get there. Some walking from the site but lots in nearby Ashdown Forest. Bluebell railway not that far and well worth a visit plus some National Trust places.

Great site - so central for superb National Trust and English Heritage properties - as well as buses to Tunbridge Wells, Lewes and Brighton. Washing facilities are a trifle faded but they are absolutely spotless. Sad too hear that the wardens are due to retire - but they have certainly earned it. Will be back, hopefully, in 2015.
