Linger a while on this friendly campsite in southern Scotland.

Moffat is our Club campsite in the Scottish lowlands. It’s an ideal stopping off point for journeys through Scotland. This pretty Victorian Spa town is just three minutes off the M74. But Moffat is much more than just a pit stop, its idyllic location more than warrants a longer stay.

The 180-pitch Moffat campsite boasts a fine setting in a wide valley surrounded by magnificent scenery. The well laid out site has a good range of well-placed facilities catering for all campers needs.

If you choose to linger a little longer in the area, the town of Moffat is a great place to start your exploration. Just a five minute walk from the campsite, the town boasts one of the broadest high streets in Scotland. Here you'll find the fountain topped by the statue of Colvin Ram, the famous Moffat Toffee Shop and the Star Hotel which appears in the Guinness Book of Records as the narrowest hotel in the world. Moffat also offers a variety of shopping including a weekly market on Fridays and a monthly producers market.

Nearby Station Park offers a  variety of attractions including a boating lake and gardens. Next to the campsite the Hammerlands Centre has a garden centre, cafe and fishery.

The town holds an annual walking festival in October and from the campsite you can access some of the finest hilwalking in the south of Scotland. Also close by is the Grey Mares Tail, a magnificent waterfalldropping 200ft from Loch Skene.

There are also a number of historic houses and castles in the area. Drumlanrig Castle near Thornhill - Scotland’s oldest inhabited house - contains artwork by Rembrandt and Da Vinci and has wonderful landscaped gardens and woods. Medieval  Caerlaverock Castle is located close to nearby  Dumfries.

I couldn't fault the welcome, the helpfulness of the staff, the cleanliness and the facilities of this site. However, it retains a feel of 'motorway service station' due to the proximity of the motorway, with campers overnighting and breaking their journey to and from Scotland. As a consequence this is probably one of the busiest sites I have visited for arrivals and departures. Adding to this feel is Moffat - whilst it is a nice town, with plenty of walks, local amenities, nice coffee shops (Brodies merits a visit, on the route into town from the site), once you've walked round the town a few times and looked in the shop windows, sympathised with the coach visitors being shown another 'Mill' on their tours of Scotland, it just feels a bit unsatisfying. The only criticism of the site would be the location of the only toilet block. If you are on a pitch that is down towards the 'Green Frog' fishing lake complex, then it's a bit of a walk to the toilet block. If you have reduced mobility, then a pitch on the road 'circle' would be far better. Great for a weekend and as a transit stop, but probably not enough in the local area (unless you drive lots of miles) to hold the attention.

Moffat offers town, country and a relaxing atmosphere.

This review is for Moffat

Moffat offers town, country and a relaxing atmosphere. Farmers markets held second sunday of month. Functions in local pubs and restaurants and are advertised in the information area. The amenities block is spotlessly clean as is the entire site. There is easy access for hill walking and other outdoor pursuits. The adjacent Moffat Woolen Mill offers a 6 piece breakfast for £3-00. Tasty and good value. Wi Fi deal for the whole year (C & C sites) at £20.00 well worth buying from Site Managers. We will be back !!!!
