The sandy beaches of Charmouth make this a popular family site.

Our pretty Charmouth Club campsite is perfectly located for exploring Dorset’s stunning Jurrasic coast and many popular resorts including Lyme Regis and Beer to the west and West Bay and Weymouth to the east.

Surrounded by rolling hills, this well-maintained campsite offers spacious pitches in small clusters bordered by trees and bushes. As well as the expected toilet and shower facilities, the campsite boasts a laundry, a well-stocked shop, children’s play area and dog walk.

If fossil hunting is on your holiday to do list, visit the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre for information. The beach here is a good place to start your hunt for fossils or head east from the campsite to the famous Chesil Beach.

For days out the beautiful Forde Abbey and gardens at Chard is a must. Abbotsbury Swannery is ideal for children or for something different, enjoy the stunning Axe Valley from the Seaton Tramway’s hot pink narrow gauge tram.

Pros. Well maintained. Good shop and reception. Staff very friendly. Cons.

Pros. Well maintained. Good shop and reception. Staff very friendly. Cons. Small shower block very dilapidated and mouldy. Not enough facilities for what is an enormous site. Our pitch had 60+ vans that all had to drive past us as there was only one access. This and the road next to the site made it quite noisy.

We were put in the newly acquired camping site at the top of the field. Our pitch wasn't completely flat, neither had the grass been cut for at least a few weeks like the rest of the site, however, we didn't grumble. When we went in search of our nearest toilet and shower block, which was clearly indicated on the site map, to our disappointment there were 2 porta loos and NO showers. The loos were in a disgusting state. And as for the non-existent shower block, we were told that these were going to be built later this year. I am partially disabled and have walking problems - the nearest proper toilet and shower block would be a 10 minute walk for me, therefore not exactly ideal, even though I pointed this to a member of staff when I booked our 2 nights. There was also a farm vehicle working up until 11pm on one night which was quite pound and prevented our children from sleeping. Having paid 65 for the 2 nights (members rates), I don't think that it was worth this at all. The fact that we didn't have the amenities that were clearly shown on their map, should have been reflected in the price. Quite disappointing. On a positive note, there were plenty of rabbits to capture the kids attention, along with a wooded area and takeaway van.

Site is close to Lyme Regis and Charmouth for those who like seaside holidays and coastal walks but is also convenient for many country houses and gardens in Dorset and Devon. Hot-food take-away vans visit the site on Sats, Suns and Tues evenings for those who don't wish to cook! The A35 is fairly close to the site but traffic noise is not excessive.
