Overview

Discover Dorset's beautiful beaches & surrounding area from our Moreton campsite.

Dorset’s beautiful beaches, heath and downlands are all accessible from our Moreton Club campsite located in the heart of Wessex and surrounded by Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Our 120-pitch site is open and spacious with a good range of facilities, including two amenity blocks, a small children’s play area and a dog walk.

Moreton station next to the campsite is on routes to Weymouth, Poole and Bournemouth and the bus stop, half a mile from site, will take you to the pretty county town of Dorchester where you can enjoy a number of walking trails including the Thomas Hardy trail and the Roman Town Walk. The town’s Borough Gardens has tennis courts, a bowling green and a children’s play area and hosts a number of events through the summer including live bands and a teddy bear’s picnic.

Head to the sleepy village of Moreton and stop off at the Tearooms, situated in the old school at Moreton for a cream tea. Thomas Edward Lawrence, popularly known as “Lawrence of Arabia” is buried in the church here. A more elaborate memorial can be found at St. Martins church, Wareham.

The village forms part of the “Lawrence of Arabia Walking Trail. The walks take in Bovington, Clouds Hill, Moreton Church and Lawrence’s grave.

Attractions in the area include the Tank Museum at Bovington, Monkey World Ape rescue Centre in Wareham and Lulworth and Corfe Castles. For the best beaches, head to the circularLulworth Cove, Kimmeridge Bay – great for rock pooling and swimming – and the blue flag beach at Swanage.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

The most disappointing site we've stayed at so far.

This review is for Moreton

The most disappointing site we've stayed at so far. Toilet/shower blocks are in desperate need of modernising. The train line is very loud (at least where our pitch was) with the trains still passing at 2am. Lovely welcome by two staff members on site but then dealt with an unfriendly older male staff member for the rest of the stay.

As usual with club sites, we were welcomed onto the site in a friendly manner.

As usual with club sites, we were welcomed onto the site in a friendly manner. Hardstanding pitches were clean, as was most of the site. Facilities could do with an update though. Showers cramped and if adjacent to another, a tendency to get splashed from the other around the feet and legs. The site has a feeling of being cramped with no hedges to break it up and everyone seemed to be on top of one another. Campers in the middle of the field have to drive between hardstanding pitches to get to their unit. Overall our least liked club site (and our most expensive) but don't let that put you off visiting as it is very convenient for the Dorset coast and attractions nearby.

Staff were helpful and welcoming upon arrival. The site is well presented. Yes, the trains go past about every 15 minutes during the day, but you get used to it. Pub, which we didn't try next to the entrance and enough shops nearby not to have a problem. Great for stays which include trips to the tank museum or monkey world. Huge pitches and a lovely quiet atmosphere. Railway station with good service is also very close to the site. Liked it so much that we are going back again this year. Ideal for use as a base for training rides on the quieter country lanes in the area. Plenty to see and do in the area.

“Moreton is a real favourite of ours and we have been going there for years. Moreton is brilliantly run and extremely clean. It has a real community feeling and the grounds are always splendid. Over the years we have recommended many and it too has become their favourite.”
