First time we have camped in our new motorhome so our opinions are not as qualified as others but.....we felt the entrance VERY narrow, staff pleasant but not very informative & we were a bit annoyed at being told the local pub in Burley was only 2 miles away...it's nearly 4...so quite a walk there & taxi back!! Toilets very clean, pitches were ok - wouldn't rush to go back - sorry!

I was slightly dubious about booking this site after reading previous reviews and after staying at the fabulous Verwood site just up the road a few weeks previously. However, it was bank holiday weekend and Verwood was booked up so we thought we'd give it a go. The site is set in a lovely location and we found the arrival process very smooth. Personally I wasn't very keen on the layout of the site (an old airfield). The site is vast and we found a spot in the upper field. The ground is extremely stony, you will definitely need rock pegs. Drinking water taps are dotted around, our nearest was in serious need of better drainage as it was a big muddy puddle hard to get close to. We found the facilities basic but clean enough. However, as I mentioned it was the August bank holiday weekend, we arrived on Thursday and found a pitch fairly easily. By mid afternoon on Friday the site was heaving. Pitching distances were reduced to 3m between units which led to people literally pitching on top of each other. There were easily 2,000 on site and the noise level reflected this. Despite the wardens best efforts it was not a good nights sleep all round, Each morning there were queues for the showers and many times there seemed to be not enough hot water for all the taps trying to use it at the same time. I'm sure that at a quieter time the site is more pleasant, and the staff were very friendly and helpful, however I didn't like the feel of it and I'm not sure that we would return, more likely we would try to get back into Verwood next time.

This is the second time we've camped here and again we had a great time. We stayed two nights and didn't go anywhere else - we just enjoyed chilling out on our pitch, playing a bit of 'tennis' and frisbee and walking in the forest around the site. There are lots of horses who gather at various places around the perimeter fence every day, and a few cows as well, which liven up even short walks from the site, especially for children. We like the 'pitch anywhere' sites but we have a small campervan and no awning so we're very flexible. I think if you're arriving at busier times with a big tent or a larger caravan or motorhome it might feel a bit like hard work trawling around the site trying to find a spot you can definitely fit into, especially if you've paid to be near an electric hook up point, which cuts out most of the site. That said, we were there in the middle of August and were surprised at how much room there was overall. There's a useful shop with a range of groceries, newspapers, camping spares and hot drinks available. We were tickled to see people driving all of 100 yards from their pitches to the shop in the morning. Staff are friendly and the site is well maintained but if you normally only camp in manicured, well-ordered sites with ruler-straight defined pitches you might have to relax your expectations a bit to get the most out of this one.

Myself and my other half had never been to this campsite before and we were pleasantly surprised. It was a relaxing and friendly environment with beautiful surroundings. The showers and toilets were VERY clean and seemed to be being cleaned by a member of staff every time we went in there. Christ Church and Bournemouth were only a short drive away if you wanted a day out, My other half loved the fact that there are horses and cows wandering around just outside the campsite. We went peak season and still found that it wasn't overly cramped. Only thing i would say is make sure that you know exactly where the campsite is before you leave as their post code does not come up on sat navs. Apart from that we both had a lovely time.
