Camping near the lovely moors and beaches of North Devon.

Our Umberleigh Club campsite in the Taw Valley is surrounded by rolling hills and meadows and is close to the moors and beaches of north Devon.

This peaceful family-friendly site enjoys a rural location with lovely views over the surrounding countryside. Facilities on site include clean, well maintained toilets and showers, a children’s play area, games room with infant's play area, skittles, table tennis table, table football and pool. There is a TV lounge, fishing pool and dog walk. There are also two tennis courts for hire, with free tennis coaching for children during school holidays.

A quarter of a mile from the campsite is the village of Umberleigh. Here you will find an art gallery, an antique shop and a local pub. Umberleigh is also one of the stations on the picturesque Tarka Line which runs between Barnstaple and Exeter.

For clean, sandy beaches and surfing head to Westward Ho, Saunton, Woolacombe and Ilfracombe and for family days out there’s the factory outlet Atlantic Village and Atlantis Adventure Park, Bideford, The Milky Way, The Big Sheep and the Quince Honey Farm.

Well placed for visits to the. North Devon coast, Exmoor, even Dartmoor. The villages around have interesting churches. The Tarka rail line is an easy and pleasant trip to Exmouth, Exeter or Barnstaple. Indeed, Barnstaple is a delight, with its pannier market. Also worth a visit, and within a half hour drive are Torrington, Chumleigh and South Molton. For walkers Eggesford Forest is less than half an hour away. Ideal walking for dogs. There is good food at The Portsmouth Arms along the A377 towards Crediton, dating back to the 1400s and the Bell at Chittlehampton. On the second Tuesday of the month Atherington and Chittlehampton WI welcomes WI visitors to its meeting. For a good swim, try High Bullen Hotel near Chittlehamholt. Beautiful pool and lovely view. Locals go down the river at Umberleigh, taking the footpath beyond Murches near the station. I have not tried this myself. Libbaton Golf course is full of good views and has hot food all day.

Great stay, although short I will go back. Facilities good but small if site full. Uiet site, on high ground so can be windy but fab sunsets. Great dog walking area and good size pitches. Hosts are kind and helpful and maintain the site well. Shop is small but well stocked. Had a lovely stay and would definitely recommend.

Everything about this site was excellent, the welcome and talk through of facilities, the facilities were spotless and the water was always hot. It was very well kept and the fresh flowers in the ladies was an extra bonus. The games room had everything you would need to entertain family if the weather was bad, and the Artwork was many hours of hard work! The fishing lake was enjoyed and a few tiddlers and a 3-4lb Tench was caught. The Bell Inn was a recommendation, and a very good one it was. All in all a very good weekend. Thankyou
