Camping near the lovely moors and beaches of North Devon.

Our Umberleigh Club campsite in the Taw Valley is surrounded by rolling hills and meadows and is close to the moors and beaches of north Devon.

This peaceful family-friendly site enjoys a rural location with lovely views over the surrounding countryside. Facilities on site include clean, well maintained toilets and showers, a children’s play area, games room with infant's play area, skittles, table tennis table, table football and pool. There is a TV lounge, fishing pool and dog walk. There are also two tennis courts for hire, with free tennis coaching for children during school holidays.

A quarter of a mile from the campsite is the village of Umberleigh. Here you will find an art gallery, an antique shop and a local pub. Umberleigh is also one of the stations on the picturesque Tarka Line which runs between Barnstaple and Exeter.

For clean, sandy beaches and surfing head to Westward Ho, Saunton, Woolacombe and Ilfracombe and for family days out there’s the factory outlet Atlantic Village and Atlantis Adventure Park, Bideford, The Milky Way, The Big Sheep and the Quince Honey Farm.

Ron, Jo and Keith run a tight ship and it shows by how immaculate the grounds and facilities are kept. There are beautiful, well tended flowers all around. A lovely small, well stocked reception area and a very informative information centre next door. There is large activity/climbing frame for the children as well as a football pitch away from the units. Also avaiable is a tennis court and a barn with table tennis, table football, skittle alley and a seating area with a TV. There is also a fishing lake onsite too.The site is only a short distance from the village railway station with trains to Barnstable, Exeter and beyond all at very reasonable fares. The Rising Sun pub/restaurant is only a short walk away but our favorite is The Bell Inn at Chittlehampton which is approximately 3 miles away, it`s in a pictureque village with a beautiful church and serves amazing food, real ales and a good wine selection all at excellent prices and you get 10% off as a CCC member. The Site Managers really do go the extra mile to make everyones stay special i.e. on our last day as we were packing away Ron delivered our newspaper to us so we wouldn`t miss it before we departed. We can highly recommend this sight to everyone.

Having booked a road trip for me and my dog Lola later in the summer . I was beginning to get nervous about camping for the first time since I was a child. I thus decided to book a weekend trip to test my camping skills out. I couldn't have asked for a better site to do this. I was welcomed by Keith when I arrived at site at aproximately 6PM. He walked me around all the facilities and helped me choose a suitable pitch for me and Lola. He recommended a spot which overlooked the dog exercise area and football area and beyond. This was a great view to have whilst I relaxed in the evening. The dog exercise area was also great for Lola, and there is also a nice walk to the fishing pond that we did a couple of times (Make sure you have insect repellant though if you walk here at dusk!) This site is very dog friendly and I particularly liked the dog parking area outside the toilets and showers (very useful for lone travelers with dogs)During the day we visited Saunton sands (no restrictions for dogs) and woolacombe bay (the area you can can go to with your pet pooch is well signposted). Both these beaches had good waves and the water was very clear. It is a very quiet site and I felt very secure. I will definately return for a longer stay in the near future, so i can also walk some of the Tarka trail. I now feel more confident about embarking on my longer road trip in 3 weeks time and I'm really pleased I chose Umberleigh for my debut trip. All on the site made me feel welcome and special thanks to Keith who I found to be most helpful without being intrusive.
