Camping near the lovely moors and beaches of North Devon.

Our Umberleigh Club campsite in the Taw Valley is surrounded by rolling hills and meadows and is close to the moors and beaches of north Devon.

This peaceful family-friendly site enjoys a rural location with lovely views over the surrounding countryside. Facilities on site include clean, well maintained toilets and showers, a children’s play area, games room with infant's play area, skittles, table tennis table, table football and pool. There is a TV lounge, fishing pool and dog walk. There are also two tennis courts for hire, with free tennis coaching for children during school holidays.

A quarter of a mile from the campsite is the village of Umberleigh. Here you will find an art gallery, an antique shop and a local pub. Umberleigh is also one of the stations on the picturesque Tarka Line which runs between Barnstaple and Exeter.

For clean, sandy beaches and surfing head to Westward Ho, Saunton, Woolacombe and Ilfracombe and for family days out there’s the factory outlet Atlantic Village and Atlantis Adventure Park, Bideford, The Milky Way, The Big Sheep and the Quince Honey Farm.

and watched them. We were a family of four. 2x Afults, 2x kids and also our dog and a puppy. Fish and chips Tuesday night was brilliant. We went over, put our order in and then went back to pick them up. It was the last week of July so busy but it was defo worth the wait. The location is pretty but away from anywhere. Thankfully we read to not use the satnav on the way here and found it easily. You can't go out off site without taking your car. The on site shop sells the basics but a cost cutter down the road stocks all your needs. Including the biggest pasties I've ever seen. You can walk your dogs in their own area but it is not fenced off so dogs have to be on a lead at all times (although some think this rule doesn't apply to them)! Overall this is a great site, well kept with friendly staff. The showers are hot and clean. The laundry was a great addition too. I would recommend this site for anyone wanting a base to use for the local beaches or anyone wanting a chilled break away.

We arrived a little later than planned on Sunday evening, but were made very welcome. Richard showed us to our choice of pitch (which we changed from hard standing to grass as the weather was drier than we thought it would be!) and we drove straight in. A nice touch was that both Tricia and Richard indicated which way was South, in order for us to get the most of the sunshine (didn't have to get my compass out!). The facilities were spotless and cleaned daily. The shower blocks looked new and the water was as hot as one needed. There was even a hairdrier and a fully-equipped laundry room. Orders could be taken for milk, bread, etc and the chip van visited on the Tuesday night. In spite of what some reviews said, the fish and chips were excellent (lots of chips) so I recommend these as well as the site. The site (small to medium sized in our estimation) itself was very peaceful, with handy walks close by. Family games room (which we didn't use) is available as is a tennis court, small football pitch and a lake. Highly recommended for those who want a quiet, relaxing yet fully equipped holiday.

The reception area looks beautiful with loads of hanging baskets and pots of summer bedding. The site is clean and well maintained. The facilities block was immaculate. First time we stayed on this site we were with our 2 daughters and 3 grandaughters..this visit we had a more 'peaceful' holiday! This site is suitable for everyone. Can recommend a visit to the Stags Head.....about 15 minutes drive ...but well worth it. Lovely old pub and delicious food. Nothing seems to be too much trouble for the managers at this site.....smiling and friendly. :)

Beautiful site, very well managed and kept by Trish and Richard with the very able help of Trevor! All the wardens are extremely friendly and helpful and the men are a right comedy duo! They are all a real credit to the club!! The very well kept site is very peaceful with lovely views. Nearby there is plenty to do, walking and cycling on the Tarka trail, walking around Exmoor, beautiful beaches for water sports or to just enjoy. Our favourite beach was Instow, where you can walk forever on wet sand when the tide is out and look across to Appledore or watch the Royal Marine hovercrafts practising their beach assaults!! We also enjoyed Castle Hill Gardens, walk up the hill to the castle folly and look down onto the huge palladian style house and the amazing surrounding views. Extremely good value if you use the special club discount, only 5.50p for two adults!! We had a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing holiday here and would definitely recommend this site to others.
