Overview

  • Campsite is located within a National Park

    Site within National Park

There are glorious views of Dartmoor National Park from this lovely Devon campsite.

Fabulous views and numerous walking and cycling opportunities await those camping at our lovely Tavistock Club Site. This pretty site lies on the central western boundary of the stunning Dartmoor National Park.

This spacious campsite accommodates up to 80 units and has modern facilities including individual shower rooms with toilet and sink, disabled facilities and a laundry and washing up area. As well as the many dog walking opportunities off-site, there are two large enclosed dog walks on site.

Tavistock, 2 ½ miles from the site, has world heritage status. It is a picturesque and ancient Stannary and market town with the beautiful River Tavy running through its centre. Whether you enjoy lovely cafes and shops or grand architecture and historical abbey ruins, it is well worth a visit.

Leave your car on site and venture on foot or two wheels and explore Dartmoor’s sweeping hills and wooded valleys. The National Cycle Route number 27 (coast to coast Ilfracombe to Plymouth) passes 200 yards from the site.

A good place to start your visit to Dartmoor is the National Park Visitor Centre at Princetown, east of Tavistock campsite. Displays and exhibitions give a wonderful insight into the history, culture and wildlife of the area. Princetown also offers excellent access to the north and south moors for hill walkers.

The beautiful village of Sheepstor south-east of Tavistock campsite is where Stephen Spielberg’s Warhorse was filmed, while north of the campsite, Lydford boasts a castle and the stunning Lydford Gorge which stretches for one and a half miles from the Devil’s Cauldron whirlpool to the 100ft Whitelady Waterfall.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

We had a peaceful few days with the dogs but there's plenty to do out and about if that's your thing, Tavistock is ten minutes down the road and is a lovely little town, if your a fisherman like me then you've got Tavistock trout fisheries down the road as well. We live in Plymouth which is around 30 minutes away but we love it here regardless, well worth a visit.

Our pitch was in a field with 2 'Ready camp' units which looked very spacious and homely. We were greeted very warmly by the management team who were really helpful and informative throughout our stay. The information room is a credit to Cas (Manager) who has obviously put loads of work into setting it up. The site is beautifully maintained and a credit to the management team. We visited Tavistock town which has lovely (easy) walks along the river and Lydford Gorge which is very pretty but a rather more challenging walk. Apparently buses are available from just outside the site although we were tenting so had our own vehicle. Would definitely recommend the site and would like to thank 'The team' for all their hard work and for making our stay so pleasant.

The site itself is almost level.

The site itself is almost level. I have no experience of any other club site so can't compare, but the facilities were superb and the shower block was immaculate. The staff were very helpful and offered good advice on hooking up a new air awning (which had never been out of the bag) to a new camper van. The shop sells basic necessities, including rock pegs for the hardstand pitches if you don't already have them. Tavistock is only 2 miles down the hill and the top of Dartmoor only a bit over a mile uphill (and on to Princetown). There is a bit of traffic noise from the road, but it is minimal and did not particularly bother me. I do National Trust visits and Buckland Abbey and Lydford Gorge are both less than 10 miles from Tavistock. Altogether an enjoyable first experience.

This is a lovely well maintained site. The managers and assistant managers are exceptionally friendly and helpful. The toilet/shower block is kept very clean at all times. There is also a very nice secure dog walk on site. Great location for walking in Dartmoor. We will definitely return.
