    Great site for couples

A family site with seaviews and sandy and shingle beaches within walking distance.

Our Slapton Sands Club campsite has all the ingredients for the perfect family beach holiday. Located on the stunning South Devon Heritage Coast, our Slapton Sands campsite commands a quiet, rural setting. Lined by trees and flanked by rolling countryside, this is the place to sit back and enjoy the views - some pitches enjoy fabulous views over the bay.

The campsite is level and well set out with some hardstandings and plenty of grass pitches. There is a children’s play area, a parent and child room, washing up facilities and a short dog walk and the small on-site shop provides the basics.

Off-site there are plenty of coastal walks to enjoy including to Beesands and Hallsands. Slapton beach is a few minutes’ walk from the campsite. The shingle beach and clean, calm sea are ideal for families (dogs are welcome too) and water sport enthusiasts can enjoy surfing, windsurfing and canoeing.

The freshwater lagoon Slapton Ley is separated from the sea by Slapton beach and is set within a National Nature Reserve. The area is teeming with bird and wildlife. There are many walks and trails around the reserve.

To the north of Slapton Sands, the Blue Flag Award-winning Blackpool Sands awaits. Backed byevergreens and scented pines, this stretch of golden sands has a real mediterranean feel.

A bus stop a quarter of a mile from the campsite is on routes to Plymouth, Kingsbridge and Dartmouth. The latter is a wonderful medieval town with a lovely harbour, perfect for crabbing, and a castle.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

This is a very nice smallish site with lovely views out to sea. It's a fairly quiet site but staff are friendly and available to help if needed. You need to use the information given on the site details on a suitable route into the site as the village of Slapton is very narrow & restricted in parts. Mobile phone coverage could be an issue - we are on O2 and had no coverage at all. We didn't use site Wi-Fi as other reviews said it was unreliable. There is a local pub, The Queens Arms, which has free Wi-Fi access and this proved to be more suitable. The pub also serves food which was OK. Unless you are a keen walker then you really need some form of motor transport as it's not particularly near to any main attractions/resorts. We visited Dartmouth, Kingsbridge, Salcombe, Torquay, Teignmouth & Dartmoor whilst there and all were not too much of a drive away. We had a really pleasant stay and would recommend this site.

Grass was uncut around the pitch, toilets were cleaned outside designated times which meant lack of privacy with the next cubical being cleaned when you were in. Staff have obviously had a long season and are waiting for closure which would explain the lack of ambiance, this is a prime site and 3years ago was run and maintained really well but not now we raised this last year and were assured training would resolve the same issues, next year we will stay elsewhere and see if anything has changed before re-booking.

This review is for Slapton Sands

Slapton Sands is an excellent centre to explore the South Devon coast and is only a short walk from the local beach which is suitable for sea angling. Nature reserve nearby also and a number of walks to hand. If visiting Dartmouth we suggest taking the bus or using the Park & Ride as parking is almost impossible even in September!!
