Near the South Devon Heritage Coast - sandy beaches and activity or peace and tranquility. The choice is yours.

You’ll find our California Cross Club campsite in South Hams, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Off the beaten track and surrounded by rolling countryside, the campsite is nestled between the sandy beaches of South Devon’s Heritage coast and the dramatic landscape of the Dartmoor National Park.

Peace and tranquillity is what you’ll find here, along with a mix of level and sloping pitches and a good range of on-site facilities. The California Inn and a shop, both next door to the campsite serve and sell locally produced food.

Nearby Modbury and Ivybridge offer a range of shops and places to eat. The latter will also appeal to walkers. The Two Moors Way starts here, traversing the National Park on its way to Lynmouth on the north Devon coast. Heading south the Erme-Plym Way links Ivybridge to Wembury. The beach here is known for its surfing and rock pooling.

Bigbury on Sea boasts the biggest sandy beach in south Devon. Catch the sea tractor from here to pretty Burgh Island. For windsurfing, canoeing and coastal walks go to nearby Wonwell beach. Mothecombe and Coastguards beaches are also not to be missed.

Worth Noting

Some pitches are sloping and chocks may be needed. Please note that currently, the play area is partially out of action.

WiFi

100% coverage cannot be guaranteed due to rural location, weather conditions and changing flora. These can cause variable signal strength. Hotspots are available. Prices.

Eat Local

The California Inn and a shop, both next to the campsite, serve and sell local produce. A farm shop four miles away has local organic meat and vegetables, a monthly Farmer's Market visits Totnes, Dartmouth, Ivybridge and Kingsbridge.

I remember we were running late due to M25 .

I remember we were running late due to M25 . The Stone Henge Rat run which was very busy that day. I was in a bit of a panic as I couldn't find the place. We had a call from a lady that run it and she put us at ease even though they were about to shut the barrier on the campsite. She reassured me that when we got there the gate would be opened for me. It was and she directed us to a nice hook up site. We travelled the couple of days we were there to see my partners dad, Totnes was easy to get to and Slapton . But beware of Slapton as the lanes are very narrow. Thoroughly enjoyed it at California Cross and hope to get back there sometime.

Greeted by friendly knowledgable staff who run a clean and tidy site.

Greeted by friendly knowledgable staff who run a clean and tidy site. Shop sold the cheapest ice cream ever and gas and there is a fish & chip van some nights. Pub, shop and garage within a tiny walk so ideal setting. We were shown the perfect pitch for us with a small van and two dogs. Our whole stay we felt welcome and and we have never been on a better run, clean, tidy site. Ideal site for touring, Dartmouth, Torcross easy reach. Will return definately.

From the time we pulled on to this site the managers Jo and Janine were great.

From the time we pulled on to this site the managers Jo and Janine were great. When they saw we had dogs they brought out a dog biscuit for all six. We met these great ladies several times during our 7 day stay and have nothing but praise for them and for the lovely site. My only issues were the cramped ladies showers, and no dog walk. Having said that we walked our dogs around the site which was fully accepted. Fish and Chip van on Wednesday nights and the Fish was wonderful, chips not so but I am hard to please. Would recommend to anyone, especially dog lovers.

A great welcome and even some doggy treats!! Nothing is too much trouble here even loaned us a can opener which we'd forgotten :-) A good centre for touring the local area, Slapton Sands great for the dogs, no restrictions we could see. You will need to travel with dogs to get the walks, though you can walk around the site with your pets. Good Pub and local petrol shop a couple of minutes walking.
