Near the South Devon Heritage Coast - sandy beaches and activity or peace and tranquility. The choice is yours.

You’ll find our California Cross Club campsite in South Hams, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Off the beaten track and surrounded by rolling countryside, the campsite is nestled between the sandy beaches of South Devon’s Heritage coast and the dramatic landscape of the Dartmoor National Park.

Peace and tranquillity is what you’ll find here, along with a mix of level and sloping pitches and a good range of on-site facilities. The California Inn and a shop, both next door to the campsite serve and sell locally produced food.

Nearby Modbury and Ivybridge offer a range of shops and places to eat. The latter will also appeal to walkers. The Two Moors Way starts here, traversing the National Park on its way to Lynmouth on the north Devon coast. Heading south the Erme-Plym Way links Ivybridge to Wembury. The beach here is known for its surfing and rock pooling.

Bigbury on Sea boasts the biggest sandy beach in south Devon. Catch the sea tractor from here to pretty Burgh Island. For windsurfing, canoeing and coastal walks go to nearby Wonwell beach. Mothecombe and Coastguards beaches are also not to be missed.

Worth Noting

Some pitches are sloping and chocks may be needed. Please note that currently, the play area is partially out of action.

100% coverage cannot be guaranteed due to rural location, weather conditions and changing flora. These can cause variable signal strength. Hotspots are available. Prices.

Eat Local

The California Inn and a shop, both next to the campsite, serve and sell local produce. A farm shop four miles away has local organic meat and vegetables, a monthly Farmer's Market visits Totnes, Dartmouth, Ivybridge and Kingsbridge.

Getting there; last couple of miles were a bit of a squeeze! Road is narrow but with plenty of passing places, made all the easier for us as we were following a cement mixer.... Site; lovely! Staff were so friendly, walked us to 2 available pitches, allowed us to decide on final choice. We only stayed for 4 nights as we had to move on to Cornwall for a family wedding but otherwise we would have stayed longer. So much to do in the area. We will go back if we get the opportunity. Thank you to all the staff.

The site is excellent for visiting lots of coastal hamlets, situated between Plymouth and Dartmouth on the edge of Dartmoor. The main central area is slightly sloping but definitely not a problem, the wardens where very friendly and knowledgeable about the area, the fish and chip van that comes on a Wednesday was great to see. I would recommend this site to anyone young or old, also the site is dog friendly. We had a very nice time there and will certainly return.
