Near the South Devon Heritage Coast - sandy beaches and activity or peace and tranquility. The choice is yours.

You’ll find our California Cross Club campsite in South Hams, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Off the beaten track and surrounded by rolling countryside, the campsite is nestled between the sandy beaches of South Devon’s Heritage coast and the dramatic landscape of the Dartmoor National Park.

Peace and tranquillity is what you’ll find here, along with a mix of level and sloping pitches and a good range of on-site facilities. The California Inn and a shop, both next door to the campsite serve and sell locally produced food.

Nearby Modbury and Ivybridge offer a range of shops and places to eat. The latter will also appeal to walkers. The Two Moors Way starts here, traversing the National Park on its way to Lynmouth on the north Devon coast. Heading south the Erme-Plym Way links Ivybridge to Wembury. The beach here is known for its surfing and rock pooling.

Bigbury on Sea boasts the biggest sandy beach in south Devon. Catch the sea tractor from here to pretty Burgh Island. For windsurfing, canoeing and coastal walks go to nearby Wonwell beach. Mothecombe and Coastguards beaches are also not to be missed.

Worth Noting

Some pitches are sloping and chocks may be needed.

WiFi

100% coverage cannot be guaranteed due to rural location, weather conditions and changing flora. These can cause variable signal strength. Hotspots are available. Prices.

Eat Local

The California Inn and a shop, both next to the campsite, serve and sell local produce. A farm shop four miles away has local organic meat and vegetables, a monthly Farmer's Market visits Totnes, Dartmouth, Ivybridge and Kingsbridge.

I am so glad i am a member, I called into the site with the hope of booking on after finding the facilities at the site I was already on were appalling. What a little treasure California Cross is, close to Bigbury, not too far to travel to Dartmouth and the surrounding areas, Plymouth an easy drive away. The local pub across the road is good value for money and worth a visit. I'd forgotten how good club sites are.

Fantastic welcome by on-site staff.

Fantastic welcome by on-site staff. Very helpful with getting us started on our first caravanning experience (didn't get grumpy when we tripped their fuses three days in a row, but actually solved our electricity issues...) Cycling in the area was a bit of a challenge (pretty steep hills, must have stamina and thunder thighs.....oh and good brake pads) but access to villages, dartmoor park and the sea side was very good. Breakfast across the road is highly recommended. (as are driving tips for tourists by Jonathan, the bar manager!) All in all a great stay, would go back again.

Overall a good site. Kids had fun in the playground. Great Wednesday fish & chips.

Overall a good site. Kids had fun in the playground. Great Wednesday fish & chips. Such a lovely setting but site does need some investment. Showers small and difficult with two small children. Odd bits like a broken fence separating pitches and 3 broken signs were noticed. Also the rather frosty tone of the rules booklet given on arrival. Wasn't up to the usual club site standards. Pitches at the bottom of the hill seem to be on top of the main sewer as you sometimes got a smell. Come on C&C club you can support this lovely site with some of our annual subs!!!! Oh and Shop onsite non-existent but a good petrol station round the corner!!. Best local supermarket is co-op in Modbury. Do not miss Bigbury-on-Sea if you stay here.

We have just returned home from a week at California Cross.

This review is for California Cross

We have just returned home from a week at California Cross. We initially booked for 2 nights but the weather was so good, we decided to stay and explore Devon. We stayed at the bottom of the site on a hard standing with electric and until the school holiday's kicked in, we had a fabulously quiet time with our 2 dogs. There is no dog run so walking the dogs has to be done off site, (we were cautioned by a female warden one night not to walk them around the site) taking your life in your hands to dodge the traffic zooming down the narrow roads past the site. There is a petrol station and spar shop around the corner and a fab pub/restaurant opposite. All in all a good site to explore Devon, clean and well kept and we had a great time. Would recommend.
