However, the site is very environmentally friendly and whereas I am myself so, I felt that this was in some cases to the detrement of the campers' comfort. The toilet block is far away from the far field and there is only one, the water was never hot enough for washing up, especially greasy things, the taps would not stay on for more than a few seconds without holding them and a notice about not cutting the grass more than once a week because of the beetles etc was really daft as these creatures have looked after themselves for many years in the grass. It is well situated for the town of Ashbourne which has a supermarket and places to eat and for Carsington Water and the Tissington Trail all of which we enjoyed. Overall it is a nice site to visit if you can put up with the monor things I have mentioned.

We recently spent 4 nights here on a grass pitch (which we prefer). The site managers were welcoming and most helpful. We have visited this site before and enjoy the peace and tranquility. We can also 'hop' into Ashbourne town on the bus (an hourly service taking about 15 mins - but wait on the corner a short walk to the left of the campsite entrance and outside a house with no actual bus stop sign, although there is one on the opposite side of the main road for the return journey). Ashbourne is a lovely little town with interesting independent shops and plenty of places to enjoy a cup of tea and a bite to eat. Families with children might like a session at 'Sticky Fingers' where you can paint your own choice of pottery (mugs, piggy banks, jugs, bowls, etc.,) and collect it fully fired later. Drinks and light snacks/cake also available as well as objects to buy. The Red Lion pub - a short drive or cycle away - is recommended for excellent meals at reasonable prices. There are plenty of nice walks from the campsite and the staff will give you a sheet of local walks foc if you ask. (We had a little difficulty getting the route to Hulland Ward but that's probably us and . . . it was really very easy on the way back!). A few essentials can be purchased from the site (like the butter I forgot to bring!) which is handy. We will definitely be returning to this site for a third visit and would recommend it to others.

Returning to Derbyshire after 50+ years, this site was an ideal base for us to visit old places we knew Dovedale and Hardwick Hall and new ones that we had been unable to visit i.e. the Matlocks and the Heights of Abraham, Stainsby Mill and old villages such as Bonsal. Found out not as fit as we thought we were but had an excellent time. Thoroughly recommend both site and area, Will certainly visit again and would recommend both site and area to any one.

first time using c&c site we were impressed, friendly & allowed us to choose pitch, although it was may half term holiday the site was pretty quiet particularly on the tent field. some of the pitches had been damaged by previous occupants & the weather but we were advised which we could choose from. We found the facilities clean and warm, although a bit of a walk from the tent field, but a single toilet had been provided closer that was adequate at night. A small shop in the reception appeared expensive and minimal in stock when viewing on arrival, we didn't use it during our stay. There is a charge for freezing icepacks. The playground was good for kids although it rained all of our stay so we didn't get to use it. The washing up facilities could have been better thought out as there are 3 sinks in a tiny undercover area, but on the left hand side you cannot have someone drying as someone washes due to there not being enough room. The water for it was temperamental and needed the tap constantly holding down to try and get anywhere near filling a sink with hot water. The other problem is if you have small children with you they either run near the elsan point or into the site road while you wash up. Overall we had a pleasant camp despite the weather, we did go out everyday in the car to places.

“A friendly and peaceful site, the showers and toilets are spotless and Ashbourne is only a 5 min drive away. There is a dog walk and even though it is a short walk its a peaceful walk first thing in the morning listening to the many birds attracted to the site due to the conservation being carried out. We would definitely use this site again for a peaceful short break. One tip don't follow sat nav.”
