Friendly welcome and a lovely view, but a 10 minute steep uphill walk to the flushing toilets.

Friendly welcome and a lovely view, but a 10 minute steep uphill walk to the flushing toilets. A friendly welcome. The hardstanding we'd booked had been double booked, but we were happy to go on the grass. The field is next to the road into Dent, which is not busy, but tents may find this noisy. The field is uneven and so you will need to take blocks etc incase you need to level your unit. It is also boggy, so ideally you'll need a 4x4. A motor home had to be towed out during our stay. The view from the site is lovely, towards the hills and there are sheep in the next field so we loved watching the lambs. Even though we had a friendly welcome and a lovely view, I wouldn't recommend this site for families, as the toilets and showers are a 10 minute walk up a steep hill, at the farm and this is tricky when you have children, as when they decide they need the toilet - they need it straight away! There is a portaloo, but obviously these aren't flushing, so you can see 'everything' that people have done before you - not pleasent. Older / less mobile people may also find the walk to the toilets and showers tricky. Dent is a pleasent 10 minute walk across a couple of small fields and the George and Dragon pub was great to eat in. There are some great walks from the site too, which we enjoyed, in particular a 6 mile circular following the river.

POOR SITE, DEEPLY RUTTED, ELECTIC HOOK UP MILES AWAY - PORTALOO AND NO SHOWER. LEFT FOR ANOTHER SITE Booked hard standing and electric hook up. Arrived to find only hard standing occupied by large motor home - been moved as they got stuck in the mud causing massive deep ruts. It was suggested I parked up near the portaloo! The electric hook up was too far away for my cable to reach and too far away to be safe. Turns out the field was being used as a bus park for competitors in the Dent race the next day ALL of whom would be using the one portaloo - I would have been surrounded on all sides by diesal belching buses!!!! No apology apparently it was my fault I had expected a proper hard standing with proper toilet and shower and a safe site with the promised view and not of the back of a bus. I left and found another site. Very upsetting when I am an older lady who travels on my own and I ALWAYS BOOK IN ADVANCE!

Warm, friendly, welcoming hosts.

Warm, friendly, welcoming hosts. Having just spent 4 days on Mill Beck Farm CS in Dent for the Dent Music and Beer Festival (for the 2nd year), I have to say that Christine and Geoff Woof who run this site, and their farm, are the most friendly and accommodating people you could ever wish to meet. Across the road on a listed site, they were packed in like sardines (does Health & Safety not apply to campsites?) and I would have been worried about the fire risk, at the very least, let alone getting your vehicle out in an emergency. No such worries on Mill Beck Farm, fresh eggs, plenty of space, a very short walk to the village - ideal. All being well, we are going next year too.
